Arley was getting his new office ready so he could teach next term, just the boring things, organizing papers, and books. The Auror sat at his new desk as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. He thought he would be good to teach the class seeing his job requires him to think like a Dark Wizard does. But he was in the room to meet some of the students he would be teaching before term starts.
He sat and waited for the students to come into the class. But he sat and made a potion to make the time pass.

Rose Weasley joined her fellow students in piling into the classroom. Defense Against the Dark Arts was one of her many favorite classes, and she was interested to know how the new instructor would handle it. The post did not change hands nearly as much as it had when her parents had gone to Hogwarts, considering that with Voldemort's demise came the destruction of the jinx, but she had really liked the last professor. The woman had taught Rosie quite a bit of new spells, and the redheaded bookworm had been disappointed to see her go.
According to the many rumors going around the school, Professor Voegeli was an Auror. Rosie was curious to know exactly how his teaching would turn out. Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody, though a favorite of her mother's remembrances of the Order, had once been kidnapped and been impersonated by a Death Eater. Death Eaters were not as noticeably around anymore, though, so Rose was not extremely worried.
Upon finding a table, Rosie set down her bookbag and at once took out the required material. She was startled when her class was immediately called to attention, yet pleased. Perhaps they could spend the entire time learning more spells.
The professor looked a bit...sinister, to be honest. He had an arched eyebrow that reminded her a bit of a trademark villian look. But Rose stuck with the old cliche of facades not being everything. She would see how this man was before she made any judgements. Until then, she needed to pay attention.
Rosie swiveled around and focused her eyes at the front of the classroom. Professor Voegeli had started class.

"Hello class" Arley said he was a bit nervous seeing he hasnt taught before. He took out his wand and tapped the map of the world. It went up revealing a written text, the words "Patrouns". "I would like to start this first class by learning something, I am an exceptionally powerful wizard, no I do not brag like that fool Lockheart, or Voldemort. Now, which one of you would like to try to conjure one of these charms?" Arley looked around the class for a hand. He didnt see one so he sat down. "Would any of you like to see a Patronus conjured" Arley asked the class and sat as he waited for a hand or an answer.

Scorpius didn't really like school lessons but there were two lessons he didn't mind doing, Potions and DADA.He walked in to the lesson to see that the professor said that he was a powerful wizard like Lord Voldemort was. When he heard that he laughed as he walked to his seat.
His father had always told him about different types of spells and this one was one of them. 'A Patronus is an insubstantial animal form protector created by the advanced Patronus Charm spell, and it is one way to defend against Dementors and certain other dark creatures. The spell requires the use of a wand and the incantation "Expecto Patronum'. He said to the professor."Go on.Auror.Show us how to do a Patronus Charm."

"Ah, a Malfoy" Arley said he studied the boy for a bit. "Something funny" He said as his eyes followed Scorpius. "So you wish to see a Patronus charm?" Arley asked the class. When they nodded he said "Very well." Arley took his wand out. With one movement "Expecto Patronum!" He said as a white light shot out of the wand and you could see a Wolf running and then it was gone. "How was that?" Arley said "Good? Good. Now I know this isnt curriculum material but i would like all of you to try." Arley said "If it doesnt work that is ok, dont expect it to."

When Albus walked into the Defence Against the Dark Arts class, it was different, like his father told them, different to the current teacher's preferance. No, it wasn't pink and covered with china plates of moving cats, it was just... different. A rumor told him that this DADA teacher was an auror. Pfft, not as good of an auror as his father is, anyway. As well as the room, this new teacher was quite... intimidating. It didn't look like he took any crap with a few house point deductions, this dude meant detentions and punishments.
He could tell this teacher was very firm, but dude, he was so bragging. By saying he wasn't was just bragging even further. Without hesitation, he raised his hand, and waited patiently for the teacher's attention. What was his name anyway? Professor Voli? Voligelo? Viligilfi? Oh, wait it was Voegeli. He needed some time to learn that. "No offence, sir, but my father conjured a Patronus in his Third Year, and I think he can do the best one anyone has ever managed." he said, speaking proudly of his father. Maybe he just bragged a little bit, but he wanted the teacher to know who he was. You have to be a Potter to be privelleged, right?

"Ah, Yes. Your father, well Albus, yes I know you, and your dad Harry. He is an exceptionally powerful wizard, Ive known Harry for a good while, though not as personal as Ron, or Hermione, but I knew him." Arley said "I could do the Patronus when I was in my 4th year. I may not be as powerful as Harry, but I am not your ordinary wizard." Arley stated firmly. "About my punishment and house points. I am very lenient towards my students, you may do what you will and I cant stop you. But if I am cursed, pranked, hexed, or anything of the like, I will do more that take away house points." Arley said "But your freedom here is far more than most teachers. You may do what you want and if you need anything, you only need to walk in the door."he said Arley believes that the students need to have fun while there here not be hounded by there teachers. "Now, Albus I would like you to come up here and take a crack at the Patronus." Arley volunteered Albus. If his assumption is correct Ablus should be a great wizard also. "And yes your father is stronger that I, but he had what you all have. Teachers."

Excuse me? How dare he say he knew Albus. He didn't even know what he looked like, and how did he know he was talking about Harry Potter? Well, he could have been James too, even though he was much better looking. But he wasn't irritated about being known by people for two long, as he said he knew Aunt and Uncle Hermione a lot more. "How so, professor? How do you know my Aunt and Uncles, then?" he inquired. Well, here he was again, still bragging.. I'm no ordinary wizard... Albus wanted to groan but thought not to.
And amazing, was this guy skilled at legimens? He was able to answer his thoughts about punishments almost right after he had thought about it. Well, he had better remove his brain of all bad thoughts about the teacher, well, not that he had any. He seemed pretty cool righr now, so it was all good. Now he was really surprised when he was asked to perform a patronus. Well, he had only really managed to perform it properly recently, since he was fifteen, and he was a bit nervous for going up.
"M-me?" he stuttered, and he cleared his throat and stood up. He concentrated hard, and although there was no presence of anything dark such as death eaters, he still had to focus on something happy in order to conjure a working and proper patronus charm. Let's see, when was a happy moment? Well, there was the time when Mum and Dad had gotten him the Firebolt broom, that was a pretty happy moment. As soon as he had that in his head, he said as clearly as he could through his nervousness; "Expecto Patronum!" His patronus was a stag, like his fathers, and it was considerably good, of course, he'd need some more practice.

Rosie had known of the Expecto Patronum enchantment from the time she was a little girl chasing James for stealing her library book. Her Uncle Harry had never missed an opportunity to show his pride and joy of a silver stag to the younger Weasleys, and Rose distinctly remembered once swiping his wand at the young age of five. She had begged and pleaded for him to teach her how to create an effective Patronus, but his answer had been a resounding chuckle and an irritating "when you're older." The phrase always infuriated Rosie. The mere idea of her not being able to understand a concept because of something as simple as her age had never ceased to bring out her Weasley temper. She had decided to show her uncle that she did not need his help to form a Patronus.
From that moment, the redhead grabbed anything she could get her hands on about Patronuses. She had even tried casting one once in a while, and had finally managed a slight wisp. But Rose Rowena Weasley never gave up, and so she had continued immersing herself in the subject. Perhaps now Professor Voegeli could teach her how to turn her wisp into a creature.
Tuning back in to the class, Rose noticed that Scorpius Malfoy had beat her to answering the professor's question. Oh well, she thought. Scorpius can get one moment of knowledge.
A few minutes later, she was surprised to hear the professor state that he knew her parents well...better than her Uncle Harry, in fact. "And may I ask how exactly you know my parents so well?" she inquired, wanting to hear the hard evidence come from the own man's lips. "And how long you have known Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger-Weasley?"
Rose was startled to hear Professor Voegeli call Albus-Severus up to the front and tell him to create a Patronus. It seemed Alby had been bragging yet again, trying to outdo James as usual, and Rosie was interested to see what the cousin she was closest to could come up with.
"Might I suggest finding a boggart to imagine as a dementor?" Rosie noted. "I hear the method is quite helpful."

Arley knew these kids would question him knowing there parents. "I knew them from school obviously, though they were older than me, Harry was always nice to me, eventhough everyone else wasnt, well they all were. Rosie, your mother and father helped me with classes a little bit, especally your mother. I did not mean to make it seem like I knew them better than Harry because I didnt but I knew them. Though I havent talked to them in like....forever." Arley told them. "I realize that that method is effective but, like I told you Im no ordinary wizard so you will learn how to do it...my way" Arley stated to the class "But since were learning this, you dont have to do any homework. Albus your memory isnt strong enough, here stay up here, Rosie and...Malfoy come up and give it a shot. And yes Albus, I am a Legimens" Arley smiled and sat down.

Albus nodded. Wow, boring story of his aunt, uncles, mother and father's childhood, them helping him and blah blah blah. Well, he was expecting Arley to know him through something really exciting and top secret, but no... Albus' patronus was rather good, which was why he couldn't believe it when Arley critisised it. It wasn't that bad, really, it wasn't. Albus was actually smiling when he performed it, but his face dropped when Arley had said something about it, and WHAT?! He WAS a legimens? This was bad, he'd have to continuously tell himself not to show his thoughts when in his class, but that made him think it more! ... He was a little intimidating looking OH SHUT UP, he could read Albus' mind! But then... oh cool! Rose was picked to give her patronus a go... and Scorpius Malfoy. Bleh. But before they went, he just didn't want that critisism. He was so sick of always being second best in the family, James always getting everything perfect, hell, even Lily got things well. He was in the middle, it was like he was the outcast. Against Arley's order, he attempted a patronus again. Stronger memory, huh? Well, this time he knew just the one, this would have to be his best one yet... as Arley was turned to Rose and Scorpius, Albus spoke clearly; "Expecto Patronum!" while thinking of the day when he found out his cousin Victoire had managed to bring back to life all of his deceased family, that was the greatest day ever. And before he knew it, his stag burst out of the wand, a clearly powerful one, galloping about the room. Wow, the power of love was strong. Albus couldn't help but grin at himself, and then at Arley. "Err, so Rose and Scorpius now, then?" he said with a cheesy smile, sitting down to watch them. He was satisfied now, and happy that he had proven himself.

It seemed to be taking an unusually long amount of time for Professor Voegeli to answer her. But, before she could make any kind of a comment, he responded.
Though I havent talked to them in like....forever."
Rosie found it a bit intriguing that her mother had helped him in his classes. Time and time again, she had been scolded by her mother for trying to help Lily with her homework. Hermione always said that a child would never learn if they did not do the work themselves. Regardless of that fact, Rose had tried whenever possible to show Lily how to do the work.
"So, my mum helped you with your classes, did she?"
He quickly changed topics and moved on to refer to Rosie's earlier statement. She really was looking forward to having a boggart-turned-dementor to practice on. Any Patronus the class made, no matter how strong, could easily be pathetic in the face of a swarm of dementors.
"I realize that that method is effective but, like I told you Im no ordinary wizard so you will learn how to do it...my way"
Well, this should be interesting, Rosie thought. One thing was for sure, though; none of them would be ready for a true dementor. Not that she expected any to show up any time soon. But one could never be too careful.
"But since were learning this, you dont have to do any homework. Albus your memory isnt strong enough, here stay up here, Rosie and...Malfoy come up and give it a shot. And yes Albus, I am a Legimens"
So Professor Voegeli knew Legilimens, did he? Well, it was a good thing Rosie had been practicing Occlumency for the last several years, then. She was pretty sure she was not even supposed to know how to do so, but could truly care less about the Ministry of Magic. Yes, rules were important, but one needed to know how to keep themselves safe. And being around people who knew Legilimens while keeping their minds wide open for the sifting was not being safe.
Especially with what had been invading her thoughts lately. If word got out that Rose Rowena Weasley had actually fallen for could not stop thinking about Frank Alexzander Longbottom II, she would turn crimson without a second glance. And nobody would take her seriously, either; a risk she could not take if she were to free the house-elves any time soon. It was a good thing Rosie had gotten to the point where she could figure out when someone was trying to use Legilimens and be able to block them. Rose had to try and block this professor, or at least keep an eye on him. Especially since Frank, James, and Evie had all claimed he had murdered her before bringing her back the other day.
Noticing the dialogue between Alby and Professor Voegeli, Rosie sighed. Alby had indeed been trying to show off, and the professor had said his memory was not strong enough. She knew without a shadow of a doubt that Alby would try to prove he was better than James yet again, and sure enough, Alby's Patronus was soon bursting out of his wand in a flash of blinding light.
"Err, so Rose and Scorpius now, then?"
Ahh. So Professor Voegeli wanted to see how the Weasley bookworm could handle a Patronus, did he? Well, this would make Rosie the laughing stock of the class. She still had trouble getting more than just a wisp. And she really did not have any incredibly joyful memories to use...unless...yes, that might work.
Rosie joined Malfoy and Professor Voegeli at the front of the classroom. Shrugging, she pulled out her wand. "Okay. Here goes absolutely nothing."
"EXPECTO PATRONUM!" Rosie said, surprising herself at the intensity and volume of her voice. Before she realized that it was even there, a tiny creature had materialized out of her wand. It soon grew bigger, and then was running around the classroom before letting out a mighty roar.
"Wow. I actually did it," she said, staring at her Patronus in amazement before it vanished into a thin cloud of smoke.

"You see, you did the Patronus off of your own will, not because of a boggart. But Albus that Patronus was great. Class try to be like Albus who has done a perfect Patronus on his second time." Arley smiled "And Weasley bookworm" said Arley and he winked at Rosie. "You see class you have underestimated me, but, you listened to me and look they did the Patronus. This will conclude class for today, next class we will be doing.....well I dont know...you choose!" Arley said. "Albus and Rosie I would like you two to stay after class, I have questions for you."

Woah, did he actually cast that patronus? That was SO cool! It was the first time he really got it. And now he finally understood the way to work a patronus, it had to be a really happy memory, not just something silly. And having his family being brought back to life was certainly one of the best memories he's ever had. He had acheived his objective. He just hoped Professor Voegeli didn't notice his need for topping James by reading his mind, it was pretty creepy, and he didn't like people knowing that he always wanted to be better than his brother but wasn't, even though his stress for being second best was pretty obvious.
He smiled as Professor Voegeli praised him by asking the class to do a patronus like he had demonstrated. What? Class was over ALREADY? It seemed to go by so quickly that Albus didn't even notice it, but he said they could choose what to do next lesson. Albus was about to leave when Professor Voegeli had called him and Rose back. Strange. What did he want with them? He became red in the face (a characteristic he had inherited from his Weasley side), staring at the rest of the class, and returning, glancing at Rosie nervously. What questions were they. "Yes, professor?"

"You see, you did the Patronus off of your own will, not because of a boggart. But Albus that Patronus was great. Class try to be like Albus who has done a perfect Patronus on his second time...and Weasley bookworm"
Professor Voegeli had just pried into her innermost thoughts! Rose was beyond infuriated. Had he discovered her confusion over the whole Frank situation? No one should know her private matters aside from her. Rosie quickly made sure that her Occlumens skills were put into effect, and decided to keep them that way for the rest of the time she was around this man. But she did have to admit that he had a point of the Patronus having occurred without the aid of a ridiculed boggart.
"You see class you have underestimated me, but, you listened to me and look they did the Patronus. This will conclude class for today, next class will be doing...well I dont know...you choose!"
Since when do the students choose the lesson? Rosie thought with a raised eyebrow. This would certainly be interesting. I might as well milk the idea for all it is worth. "Perhaps we could begin learning that new Defensive Flying spell Gwenog Jones recently stumbled upon? The one where a person can fly without any sort of device in dire situations?"
"Albus and Rosie I would like you two to stay after class, I have questions for you."
Rose could not recall the last time she had been asked to stay after class. The professor had just stated that their Patronuses had been good. Like Alby, she quickly turned crimson. What did I do wrong?
As her classmates scurried from the room, Rosie turned to face Professor Voegeli. "Professor, might I inquire as to the nature of our staying here?" She glanced at Alby, and within seconds, the two had been able to hold a short nonverbal conversation. He, like her, wanted to know exactly what the questions were.
"Was my Patronus a bit off? I do constantly have issues with that. How can I improve it?" Taking out her book, she flipped to a highlighted page that even contained notes in the margins.
"Excuse my dog-eared bookmarking," she said. "But right here, it specifically states 'a student can usually not provide a satisfactory Patronus until they have discussed and/or practiced the enchantment repetitively.'"
Rosie placed her finger directly on the passage and waited for Professor Voegeli's response.
