Step four: Form an angle loop with the short end of the tie crossing left. James had been in front of the mirror in his dorm room for the past half hour, attempting to get through the first three steps of how to tie a bow tie. He had a friend of his write down about eight steps that he could follow easily to get it done and over with. However, James didn't take into consideration how hard it would be for him to actually understand the steps, hence why he was still standing in front of his mirror. With a sigh, he stepped back from the mirror and continued working on the bow tie, finally getting it after an hour away from his starting time.
Because of his bow tie dilemma and the fact that he had been fretting over being Head Boy for the majority of the day, James turned up to the ball a bit later than he was supposed to. Being Head Boy meant showing up to the Ball a few minutes beforehand, to prepare for the opening speech. But when James arrived, the hall was already semi-packed with black and white clad students, all mingling and talking loudly to one another.
The students were not the only thing that caught James' eye though as he stepped through the gigantic doors to the Great Hall. The Hall was decked out in black and white everywhere. The 4 long House tables that usually stood in the middle of the floor had vanished, creating a large space for the dance floor to be put. Smaller tables surrounded the dance floor, each with a black tablecloth under a white one, fitting for the theme of the dance. Sitting on top off the tables, and floating over head, little candles burned, creating a wonderful glow in the hall. Above where the professor's table usually sat, a very large, simple clock was ticking away the last moments until it was a brand new year. James' breath was just about knocked out of him at the sight of the hall, realizing that it looked just about as amazing as it did for the past dance the school had.
After the initial shock of the sight of hall had passed, James spotted the familiar podium that the Headmaster often used to speak to the students at feasts. From the look of it, the Headmaster had already spoken to the students, which meant he was up. Rushing up to the podium, ignoring the cheers from his fellow Gryffindors as he passed them, he mentally cursed himself for being so late. Once at the podium, he gave the crowd a once over, grinned, and began to speak.
"Let's give our Headmaster a big round of applause for that amazing speech!" He clapped his hands along with the rest of the students, smiling back at the Headmaster who was sitting in a chair behind the podium. "Now, I know how you're all incredibly anxious to get this show on the road, but as Head Boy, I'm required to say a few words. First off, I'm expecting everyone to have a great time, but in doing so, please abide the rules. No one wants to get kicked out of the ball for doing something incredibly stupid, do they?" He paused for a second, letting the laughter subside.
"Second, just have fun! This is your last chance before the new year to go completely wild, so use your time wisely! Oh, and dance your hearts out, while you're at it. And now, let the ball begin!" James stepped down from the podium while the clapping and cheering was still deafening, making his way through the huge crowd.

Where was James, anyway? They were going to just walk down to the ball together, but he guessed he was still working on his bow tie. Getting sick of waiting any further, he had to finish himself up and head down. He was wearing a suit, but he didn't really need to be careful about the color, as most mens dress robes were black. He was staring in the window for at least five minutes before hand, and looking at himself in awe. He looked amazing with his dress robes, and he couldn't help grinning a himself as he looked in. The dress robes made him look different, almost, but different in a good way for sure.
Then after he was done with himself, he moved on to Jessica. He was practising what he was going to say exactly to her. Well, he already asked her to it, the rest was pretty easy, but he practiced anyway. "Jess, wil you take this dance? Too tacky." he said hopelessly. "Jessica, would you care to take this dance? Too sentimental." he said, denying his practice, as both weren't good enough. Then he just came to the conclusion that perhaps that wasn't neccessary. He had already asked her, and that pretty much involved the dance, so he no longer worried. They would probably be dancing the moment they got there.
He opened the double doors to the great hall to be greeted by, a ballroom almost. The tables were all out of the way for what he suspected to be the dancefloor. But there was one bad thing. The people, they looked so plain, orginal, and ununique. Whoever decided only black and white was aloud really needed to go see a doctor to see if they could see more than a sepia or greyscale. There was also a clock, announcing when the new year approaches and passes. Interesting.
But then something quite funny caught his eye. James. Albus felt like shouting out something, but thought better. Besides, he was about to begin a speech. He couldn't believe it. Just days ago he had been served dirty laundry by James for posting things about him on the rumor wall. Well, at least they were over it now. He could talk to people in peace and not be concious of him lurking around with some prank or another.
He couldn't see Jessica just yet, so for the time being, he went up to James while he awaited her to arive. James was finished the speech now, and it was all boring to him, to be honest. "Hey, bro." he said a little nervously. He was almost expecting more laundry to shoot out on him, but if it did happen, he was so ready this time. The pranks had just begun, and James one the battle, but he was going to lose the war. Not everybody was dancing yet, so he could talk for a while.

Upon her bed lay a gorgeous white dress robe, with ties criss crossing at the back, and the bottom seemed to be wider than the top. There were two black pieces, each running length wise down the gown, and making it look very nice. Of course, she had needed help in getting one since she was at school, and didn't know about the ball until the last minute. The young Ravenclaw had her head in a book for most of the time it was going around, and it didn't even interest her in the slightest. But what had prompted her to go? Her friends of course, their excitment was the main reason she finally decided to do something about going, not to mention being asked by Albus Potter. And who should know about getting something nice to dance than her future sister in law? Yep, she headed straight to Victoire in hopes of getting a little bit of help. The product was laying atop her bed which she couldn't wait to get into.
Of course, this meant a quick shower, to wash her hair and body and face, before getting all dry and twisting her hair up into a bun, with two front pieces dangling in front, and two dangled at the back, before picking up the gown and slipping into it. Feeling it slid against her skin, it was like slipping in water. Silky and liquid feel which was nice. Twirling, she felt nothing but lightness upon her body, knowing it was perfect for dancing. She didn't want something heavy upon her, she would get hot and probably sweaty which would ruin it, at least from her point of view. Finally she put on some nice shoes to complete the outfit, and with a smile upon her face, she headed into the common room. Waving to a few friends who were talking about their outfits, Jess walked out of the common room and into the hallway.
With a smile lit up on her face, her face simply glowing as she headed down the stairs, watching her step as she glanced around for Albus. He had asked her, and she felt all warm and glow like on the inside, and she hoped, just hoped her parents or brother Sirius wouldn't be there to embarrass her. Students were pilled up around downstairs, and a few Gryffindors were behind her now with a few Hufflepuff's just about entering the hall. An older Ravenclaw male, dressed in white, swiftly walked through the crowd while a few Slytherin swaggered up from the dungeons. Jessica chuckled as she watched them, before descending the last few steps and walking into the hall herself.
She had missed the speech, getting ready seemed to take a lot longer than it seemed. But here she was, sparkling smile on her face still as she looked around for Albus Potter, when her eyes spotted him talking to his brother. With her smile turning into a wide grin, Jess walked softly over, keeping quiet and putting her fingers up to her lips so James wouldn't call her name and let Albus know she was there. Closer and closer until she was right behind him when she spoke: "Hello Albus." Laughing ever so softly, Jess looked from brother to brother, her body a bundles of nerves that wouldn't seem to stop. "You guys look really good. Especially you Albus." Jess blushed, but since they were going to be dancing, it wouldn't be nice if she didn't pay him a higher compliment than James. Of course, it was also true.
"Are you dancing with anyone James?" Jess asked, curious to know if the eldest Potter boy and head boy had gotten himself a dance partner.

A ball was not something Rosie was looking forward to. Had it not been for the fact that her cousin Vic would have chewed her out if she stayed away the entire night, she definitely would have. She had never liked dress shopping; never saw a point to it, really. The dress would empty one's purse, cause one to be uncomfortable, and only be worn for one night. What was the point to it? Balls and dresses were for people like her cousin Lily, who could barely keep from flirting with every available male in the school. Rosie would rather sit in her dormitory and read.
She sighed as she noticed her gown. A black and white ball? Whose idea had that been, exactly? she thought. A second later, the answer was so obvious that she felt it was slapping her in the face. Jamesy and Vic.
Her honorary uncle's son had asked her to go with him, and she had not known what to do. As Vic would knock her out and drag her to the Great Hall if she ran into the Forbidden Forest and just avoided the dance altogether, she had to have at least have a date. One could not go to a ball without one, as her Aunt Fleur had indicated many times. Unfortunately, Vic had already taken it upon herself to set Rosie up with someone. So as much as Rose despised Frank Longbottom's reaction when she turned him down, she really did not have a choice.
Rowan had forced her best friend to go shopping with her the other day, and had not allowed Rosie to protest. Surprisingly, Rose had actually found a white gown that she...well...adored.
It was simple enough, yet still styled in the fashion of Rosie's favorite time period. The 1890s look was the coolest. Now to just try and get into it...
Seeing that the dress had the shape of a corset, Rose knew it would take a little bit of time. Unfortunately, Rowan was nowhere to be found. Well, guess I can do it myself. I mean, I am self-sufficient...should be easy enough.
How wrong she was! About an hour or two later, she had finally found a way into the gown, and was slipping into a pair of silver platforms. Heels would absolutely kill her feet, and, after all, they had been "an invention created by a man to make it harder for a woman to run away." Rosie saw absolutely no reason for her to have to wear the shoes, and aside from that, her ball gown would cover her feet anyway. Silver platforms would be perfectly fine.
Adding a pair of teardrop earrings and magicking her hair into a sleek updo, she was ready. Noticing the clock and panicking about having taken so long slipping into a mere dress, Rosie raced down toward the Great Hall.
I made it, she thought, relieved. Now to find the date cousin Vic had set up for her...

Formal dressing had never been an issue for Sirius. Though his father hadn't exactly been the perfect role-model for him throughout his pre-Hogwarts years, Sirius Had always been able to count on one person to help him through the normal teenage issue. His brother, Teddy. Had it not been for him, he probably would've been stuck in the situation he knew James was in right then. Unable to tie a simple little bow tie. Sirius couldn't help but grin slightly at the thought of one of his best friends and fellow marauders. Poor James was probably still clueless about the proper way to tie a bow tie. Oh well. Sirius knew that if James didn't get it after a while, he was going to get fed up and simply forget about wearing a bow tie. Wouldn't that be humiliating for him? Going into the New Year's Ball without a bow tie like every other guy in the Great Hall. 'Serves the guy right.' Sirius thought. After the dare James had set for him, there wasn't anything Sirius wasn't willing to do to get back at the eldest child of Harry and Ginevra Potter.
After looking at his reflection one more time in the mirror, Sirius decided that he looked simply perfect. Perfect, by Sirius standards, obviously meant 'God-like resembling', and anyone who knew the basic things about Sirius would know that this term was used by himself more than a good fifty times a day about -who else?- himself. You might call it self-conceited, but he called it 'merely stating the obvious'. And he was the one always wondering why people called him a git.
Heading out of the dormitory and the Gryffinor Common Room, Sirius passed by hundreds of girls and guys who were dressed up and waiting for either their date, or for a miracle to happen to get them out from going to the ball. Sirius walked slowly toward the Great Hall, knowing it would seem weird that he wasn't with a girl. He had been telling everyone all week he wasn't going with a girl. He had said he was planning to 'mingle' around and see what could come out of it. Though he couldn't fool himself or the other marauders for a split second. The reason? It had been a complete lie. For the first Hogwarts ball ever, Sirius had no desire whatsoever to dance around and mingle. Though the other three marauders didn't know the complete reason, they knew the general idea of his reasons. And that reason bore a name that had haunted Sirius' nightmares for over three years.
Alana Lestrange. The thought of her made Sirius shudder. Not because of her personally, as she would possibly be the last person to make him shudder, but because of what James was practically forcing him to do. Being a Gryffindor, Sirius wasn't one to back out of something, and this was no different. But to have James actually dare him to kiss Alana at the stroke of midnight made him nervous. God only knew what Alana would do if he actually put his lips to hers in front of the entire school. If people wanted fireworks tonight, they sure were going to get them.
Smoothing down his white dress robes, Sirius arrived at the Great Hall's entrance. Always having been one to stand out from the crowd, Sirius had opted for white dress robes, rather than black ones like most of the guys were going to have. He gave a small shrug to no one in particuliar and walked right into the already-packed up hall. It didn't take him long to spot three familiar heads. James, Albus, and even his sister were all standing together. He wasn't even the slightest bit surprised.
He had heard through other people that Jessica was going with Albus to the ball. Though he had refused to believe it at first, he had grown to accept it, even if he wasn't going to let them out of his sight for two seconds. No sir. There was no way his little sister was going anywhere alone with Albus Severus Potter. "Hello James, Albus. Jessica." He greeted as he approached the small group. "Good speech there, James. Might want to make it less boring though, next time." he said randomly. He had totally missed his friend's speech, yet after having heard him rehearse it over and over again in the past week, he pretty much knew the whole thing by heart. "By the way, Albus. I expect my sister to enjoy her night. If I see, or even hear anything, you can bet your last galleon you won't make it past midnight." He warned. Even though Albus was older than him, Sirius wasn't about to let anything slide when it came to his sister. He might be an egocentric type of guy, but no one messed with someone he cared about. He tried to sound confidant as he spoke, yet he knew that his nervousness sounded right through his words. He didn't have that much time left before he sealed up his certain doom.

It was ridiculous how much Rowan loved to dress up and go to these types of things. She absolutely went crazy when there was a dance or ball going on. She spent a great amount of her day making sure that everything about her was perfect. By the time she was done- she looked flawless.
She wore a white spaghettie strapped dress that fit her tightly in the chest and then layed out nicely around her legs, and was not huge or poofy. It also had a jewel-like thing on her chest. Her feet were comfortable inside of a pair of opened-toed white shoes that had little diamonds and sparkley things on them. Her hair was down and curly, not much different than her every day style. A silver, yet subtle necklace also hung from her neck.
Rowan was down in the ballroom just when everybody arrived. She stood against the wall with a group of friends and they patiently awaited the headmaster's speech. Rowan looked around when the headmaster was giving the speech. James should have been here already... where was he? But sure enough, he showed up late. Better late than never! When he was finished with his speech, Rowan said goodbye to her group of friends and began to make her way across the Great Hall and over to him.
He already had company and she grinned. It looked like his little brother was there, and perhaps his date? She continued to make her way over to them and smiled and waved when she passed Rosie. "Hey girl, you look great!" she said. She came up to the side of James and put her arm around his.
"Hey, James! Wow, you all look fabulous," she said. "Great speech too. Short, quick, and to the point- how they all should be! What kept you though!? You were late." She regretted saying that last sentence. Surely he already knew that he was late to the ball and to give his speech.

Scorpius hated the dances they did in school. He found them boring. He usually didn't go but this year he was.He was going with none other than the lovely Evelyn Thomas. If his father knew he would have gone ballistic.
A Slytherin going to the ball with a Gryffindor. Once everyone knew they would go crazy. He knew that James Potter would be shocked that his cousin was going to the ball with him. That was Scorpius's main plan. He really didn't like James and James didn't like him.
Scorpius put some gel on to his amazing hair and put on the best suit he had.It was a black suit with a white shirt. It was the most original type of suit anyone could wear to a black and white ball.Wait most of the boys were going to be wearing black suits with white shirts. He took about an hour and a half to get ready. He was going to look amazing. Wait he always looked amazing.
He walked to the Great Hall and was happy that he had missed the Headmaster's speech and also James's speech. He wondered how long Evelyn was going to be. He looked at the hall and thought that it didn't look too bad. He went to get a drink as he waited for Miss Evelyn Thomas.

evelyn was not planning on going to this little shindig. she was going to sit in the common room and read. but, she was asked to go to the ball by remus-james black. the kid she`d been crushing on for a while. with the new confidence she had, she rejected him. of course, she felt bad after seeing the look on his face but then she felt great after realizing he`d find another date anyway. she smiled at herself in the mirror as she inspected her outfit. obviously, she looked great. her black dress fit her perfectly. it hugged her body in all the right places, and she was sure her date would love it.
scorpius malfoy. oh what joy that would bring to the ball. james would be furious! but that wasn`t really what she wanted to happen. this was all to get a reaction from remmie. what a better person to do it with?! scorpius malfoy was the perfect person. he`d asked her, and after concluding that going with him would make the ball interesting, she accepted happily. AND he was hot. extra points scorpius. bravo.
evie walked down to the ball as quickly as she could, she hoped scorpius wasn`t already there. when she got there, and looked around she was thankful that he wasn`t. she sighed in relief then went to a table and waited patiently. finally, she saw scorpius walk in and go to get a drink. evie pulled out a mirror to check herself before putting it away and approaching him. "hey scorpius." she said, placing her hand on his arm flirtatiously and smiling at him. "lets go dance?"

The first person James was greeted with after giving his speech was his little brother Albus, and let's just say he still was a little miffed at him about the rumor wall. But James decided to let by-gones be by-gones and forget about the whole thing. I mean, he was still one of the most popular kids in the school, and the rumor didn't do anything to ruin his social standing, so he didn't really care. "How's it going, Al?" He patted him on the back and grinned. The energy of the dance seemed to be rubbing off on him, making his mood lighten ten times more than it was before he had arrived at the dance. He had had a preconceived idea that this dance was going to suck like the last one.
While looking around for a fellow marauder, Al's date for the dance showed up; a girl that the Potter's had known for as long as they could remember. She was Jessica Lupin, the sister of Sirius and Teddy, and the daughter of Tonks and Remus. James had been over to the Lupin's house on many occasions to hang out with Sirius, so he was fairly close with Jess. She snuck up behind Al, silently telling James to not acknowledge that she was there. He grinned when she complimented him, touching the sides of his collar and shrugging. He knew when she said 'especially you Albus' she was just doing that because she was his date, and she sort of had to.
Before he knew it, Jessica's older brother was making his way over to the small crowd they had formed. "Yeah, yeah, Sirius. Nice to see you too." He brushed off Sirius's insult because he was used to being ragged on by his friends. In addition, Sirius had been listening to James recite that speech over and over again, so he could kinda see where Sirius was coming from on the boring part. When the older Lupin was giving Albus a hefty warning about taking care of Jessica, James rolled his eyes, hoping he never sounded that bad when it came to protecting Lily.
His wandering thoughts ceased, however, when the most gorgeous Ravenclaw he had ever seen started making her way towards him. "You...you look bloody amazing." He grinned being completely honest in his deduction. The girl looked amazing in a dress. "Oh thanks! I tried to keep it short because I was just anxious to get off the stage." James surprised even himself with this confession. He usually enjoyed talking to a crowd, but he figured it was because he had talked himself down about the dance. "Kept you waiting long, did I?" He smirked a tiny bit "I was just trying to get this damn bow tie..." He trailed off, realizing that he was not alone with Rowan and was with one of his best friends and little brother who would surely get on his case about not knowing how to properly tie a bow tie. "Er...I'll tell you later."
Without meaning too, his gaze started to wander elsewhere, where it immediately met an unpleasant sight. He had never taken his cousin Evie for a Malfoy lover, but there she was, hooked onto the little Snake's arm, dragging him out to the dance floor. But, Evie liked Remus! So why was she out there dancing with Malfoy? It didn't make much sense to James now, but he made a mental note to ask her about it later.

Post by Remus-James Black on Jan 2, 2009 1:58:54 GMT -5
It had been months since Hogwarts had hosted a ball of any sort, and although Remus was grateful for these excuses to interact with pretty girls of all years, he couldn't help but block out the memory of the last one. It hadn't been pleasant, to say the least. For him, it wasn't disastrous, as it was for James, but it certainly wouldn't be named best night of his life, and for that, he decided the memory was fit to inhabit only the back of his mind. Still, tonight he couldn't help but bring his thoughts back to that night; the only good thing about it had been that he had gone with Evie, who now seemed to be avoiding him ever chance she got.
Yes, he had asked her, but only in vain, as she had turned him down without a second thought[or so he thought]. He didn't understand it; she was the only girl who had ever turned him down, yet she was the only girl he ever actually felt anything for. Were the two thoughts linked? At first, he tried to convince himself that he only wanted her because he couldn't have her; but then, after having a talk with his father about James Potter and a miss Lily Evans, he had come to the conclusion he was lying to himself just as James once had in his situation. It was incontrovertible; he was in too deep to get out now, and he wasn't even sure he wanted out anyway.
However, he had been left completely crestfallen, and had wandered off in the corridors late at night, till the little light bulb over his head had gone on. Victoire Weasley. The little light bulb practically shouted her name. She would have a solution for him... because not only was Evelyn Thomas her cousin, but she always had good advice to give him. He had ran to see her, and pounded her office door till she came running wand in hand, and half dressed[she seemed to be going to take a shower...oops?].
She had scolded him for being out late at first; but then again, she seemed pleased when he asked for her help. He ran through the problem with her, outlining the fact that he really did like her cousin, and something in his expression made her believe him. At first, she bit her lip, seeming troubled, but then a slow smile slide onto her face. "I have a solution for you" she had said, but she shook her head lightly. "but I want you to make it clear that you aren't actually dating the girl I chose, okay? I wouldn't want to hurt Evie or your mystery date either." This made Remus slightly afraid, but he had agreed none the less. Hey, he wasn't above the jealousy card, and even after what Victoire said; he wouldn't have to shout that the girl wasn't actually a "date".
So, here he stood, waiting at the front of the Great Hall after about an hour of preparation.[ He had to look handsome, as usual!] He had watched James tie and retie his bow tie so many times that Remus had actually wondered if it was worth the effort, and decided to go with a simple black clip on tie instead. He took a deep breath at the entrance, and slid a confident, radiating smile onto his lips. He spotted his beautiful date from a mile away, because unlike her, Victoire had told him who she would be. He hadn't understood why she hadn't had another date before Vic had set her up; she was surely pretty, and in all the time he'd known her, he hadn't found her uninteresting. So it was quite a surprised to find she had no date, and would be helping him in his strange plot. As he walked past them, he winked and waved at Sirius, James and Albus, but didn't approach them for any further contact just yet.
She was just past them, and Remus couldn't help himself but grin, the two of them, although not romantically, were going to have fun. But before he had a chance to reach her, he saw Evie, and his chest practically exploded. She was beautiful; spectacular but when he saw who she was with, his face contorted in a sort of rage that probably made him seem slightly inhuman. Of all people, she would choose a Malfoy... not only that, but she would choose a Malfoy over him. He scoffed, and soon his thoughts wandered to 'well it's not the first time she chose a slytherin over you, now is it?', and the voice in his head couldn't help but sound slightly hostile. Slowly, he took another deep breath and decided he would not let this affect him; instead, he would show her what exactly she was missing, and now she'd know she'd made a mistake. He wouldn't be selfish though, he would now focus on his date, because she deserved as much. Remus crept up behind her, trying to restore his good mood. He was ready to put on his usual act of gentleman, and ladies man, and placed his hand on her lower waist and whispered gently in her ear. "Hello mystery girl."

"Hello mystery girl."
Rosie jumped at the sudden appearance of two hands on her waist, and swiveled around. As she noticed the boy who was now standing in front of her, she could not help but automatically wish to run away. Thoughts of the millions of bookshelves suddenly filled her mind, and she longed to run into the comforting haven she adored so much.
Remus-James was fine as a person, and she had never really found anything wrong with him, but her cousin Evie liked him. And Vic knew that. Rosie was going to be used to make Evie jealous, she could feel it. Why she ever agreed to have Vic set her up in the first place was beyond her. Who wanted to spend their ball helping a boy make her cousin jealous? They were only going as friends, but still.
"Hello, stranger."
She had to at least be congenial. Remus-James could not know how disappointed she was in this pairing. She did not want him to spend the entire ball moping about Evie, after all. Perhaps he could grab a date with her cousin later. Rosie would just grin and bear it. Only as friends, she tried to remind herself.
"You clean up quite nicely."
She tried to refrain from rolling her eyes at having a date with the "King of players."

Scorpius had his drink in his hand and began to drink it when he saw Evie. The first think that came in to his head was WOW!!! He knew that Evie was hot but her in that dress made her absolutely hot. When she put her hand in to his, he felt as if she had burnt him."Wow. Evelyn you look.Wow."He had just said wow twice in a row.He had only done that once and that was to his ex- girlfriend.
He grabbed her hand back and pulled her closer to him."Yeah, sure Evie."He was a pretty good dancer so she didn't have to worry about his dancing."I'm a good dancer so you don't have to worry. I hope you are."He laugh at what he said.He looked across to see that Remus Black had just walked in.
He had heard that Remus had asked Evie and she had said no but she had said yes to Scorpius so he was really happy. He managed to piss off Remus- James Black and get a date with Evelyn Thomas. He had really accomplished a lot.He thought about asking her why she was going with him."So Evie. Why have you come to the dance with me?"

evie smiled as scorpius complimented her. "well thank you. you look pretty dashing yourself, mr. malfoy." she smirked then gasped slightly when he pulled her to him. she laughed slightly. "i`m a great dancer. it runs in my family. . well. . at least my mother`s side, being. . . . well. . what she is." she grinned and mentally kicked herself. that was certainly not a topic she wanted to bring up. her veela side. it was probably the thing she despised most about herself. and everybody in the school had to know she was. she heard the whispers in the lady`s room. girls saying she charmed the guys with her veela power. evie rolled her eyes slightly and looked around the room.
for a moment, she couldn`t breathe. remus had just walked in and damn he looked great. when she caught her breathe again, she looked up and smiled at scorpius. "ohh, i figured it would be a great opportunity. it would promote inter-house unity." she smirked. "and honestly, i figured we be the best looking people here so why not go together?" she laughed but her eyes moved back over to remus. she needed to know who he came with. she watched closely as he began to approach a girl. obviously, at the moment she didn`t know who the girl was. when he touched her waist, she got jealous. but when she turned around. . . it was an understatement to say that evie was mad, or angry. she was furious. it took everything she had to hold herself back from going over and causing the biggest scene. but she took a deep breathe and turned away. she was not gonna cause an uproar at this ball. considering the fact that james was the head boy and in charge. he was her cousin and she would NOT make this a bad event. she just hoped remus considered himself lucky. because that`s definitely what he was right now.

To arrive late was one of Lily Potter's specialties. She usually made it to things like class just barely on time. Events like a ball, dance - which ever you want to call it - the idea of arriving late was most likely going to happen. Lily purposefully took her time for two reasons; A - she didn't have a date, B - she liked to arrive fashionably late. Since she didn't have a date, Lily figured she could take all the time she wanted getting ready. Besides, who wants to hear a boring speech anyway, even if one of them were being delivered by James.
Lily had liked the idea of a themed ball but, the next time she was going to put in her suggestion that it be a masquerade ball. That would be much more fun. Planning her outfit for this evening took a few weeks. Lily blamed her mother, Ginny, all for that bit. Once the dance had been announced, Lily already had an idea of what sort of dress she wanted to wear. Ginny had to dampen those hopes - forcing Lily to be conservative and wear something that suits a fourteen year old girl. Luckily, they compromised and Lily got part of what she wanted while still satisfying her mother's neediness to control her life. OK, controlling her life was a little extreme but, that was just how Lily looked at it.
In her black high heels, Lily hurried down the staircases to the hall. She was about thirty minutes late. A majority of the time had been spent on her hair. Little Lily-Lu just couldn't decided on how to have it. It was a good thing she had magic, she must have gone through thirty different ways to style her hair before making her final decision. A mere ten minutes ago Lily had finally decided to just leave her long red locks down, and just curl it up a bit. It looked elegant enough for her - and it would be much easier to maintain throughout the night.
Lily paused outside the hall doors, mainly to catch her breath and smooth her dress. She threw on her best smile, and walked straight in. The hall looked amazingly decked out in all it's decor for the new year. She just could wait for things to get started. That is, until she realised things had started. I'm later then I thought. Oh, well, I still look amazing.. she thought to herself.
Immediately she trained eyes scanned the hall for certain people, and looked for certain couples that could cause rifts in the evening - eventually leading to some good gossip. Of course, Lily would make time for flirting with boys and dancing too. First thing was first, see who was here and wasn't. It was easy for her to find her brother's. She spotted them within a quick second. Lil had already known who they were going with - they didn't know that she was coming to the dance alone. Albus and James made it almost impossible for her to find a date much less have anyone ask her. Lily put all the blame on James since he went off and just had to be Head boy and all.
Lily's mind turned into a pile of mush for a second. Who to visit first, her brothers, and friend - or her cousin who was oddly with Remus Lupin. She tilted her head the side a bit curious about that one. Lily knew that Remus and Evelyn liked each other - it was plainly obvious to her - then again, her snooping skills did come in handy too. Regardless, she knew they were just fighting their feelings, which never turned out well for either parties. Briefly thinking about the Miss Thomas, Lily's brown eyes spotted her with none other then the disgusting Scorpius Malfoy. What in Merlin's beard is she thinking? Lily thought to herself. She couldn't think of anyone in her right mind that would even want to be within an arms reach of the creep. She shrugged, figuring she'd get to the bottom of that one later. For now, she decided to join her brother's and their dates. Casually, she walked up to them and stopped next to Albus and Jess, holding her hands behind her back and wearing a smile. "So, did I miss Jamie's speech?" she asked them, using her nickname for her elder brother.

Remus pulled away a little as she jumped up, clearly startled. His eyes fell to her face, and he could see that she was clearly displeased it was Remus who was her blind date. That frustrated him a little; first he was turned down by a girl who he liked and now someone who was going as friends with him looked like she'd rather be anywhere but here. What is wrong with girls lately?! he thought furiously but he knew right away that it wasn't him. It was the fact that Rosie was a very conservative person, who liked books and the library far too much to want to go to the ball with someone like him.
"Hello, stranger." He tried to smile and react as if he hadn't noticed anything, but instead, he raised his eyebrow at her and set a small grin on his face. "Don't look too disappointed about me being your date. I think Victoire just wanted you to come out of your shell a bit. Maybe she was hoping I'd show you the crazy side of life and you'd like it?" he laughed, because he wasn't outright lying. It seemed to him Victoire had deliberately chosen her cousin Rosie, who was the sort of person to avoid a ball like it was something dangerous.
"You clean up quite nicely."
Remus then smiled, unsure whether she was being polite or she really meant it, but hey, he wasn't one to refuse a compliment. "Thank you, you look quite stunning yourself, Rosie." His eyes flickered over her for a moment, but not long enough to make her uncomfortable before he held out his hand to her. "We're here as friends, of course! but it wouldn't hurt if we danced a little would it?" He glanced at another dancing couple that made his eyes narrow slightly. He hoped Rosie wouldn't see a difference, but he sighed loudly, and returned his gaze to her. "Ready?"
