Evie shook her head. "Katherine! No you dont! Merlin! I'd KILL to have your figure! You know Little Fin lives you torture you! Why in the HELL would you listen to him?!" She sighed and threw up her hands. She leaned against the wall and glared at Katherine. She couldnt understand why Katherine was being so self conscious. The girl was beautiful and she had the nerve to stand there telling Evelyn that she looked like a chubby old hag in a dress! She rubbed her temples. Sometimes she just didnt understand girls herself...
Evie sighed. "Yes Kat. Lucky. You will be. Even if you are hopeless at it... so what? Most girls are! You know what? Im calling my cousin Vic up here. She's gonna slap you if she hears you... OF ALL PEOPLE! saying something like that." Evelyn stood there shaking her head at her friend for a while until Kat asked her who she was asking. She blushed deeply. "I... Uhhhmmm... I dunno... " She looked down and tucked her hair behind her ear, only to have it fall back on her face. She let her face cool down then looked back up at Kat. "You never answered about James either. Ask him Kat." She urged, smiling and nudging her best friend slightly.

"I do. Ask my mum!" defended Katherine, "Even she tells me I could stand to lose a few pounds or tone this and that. My own bloody mother Evie. Missus Fashion Guru Finnigan!" Kat hated the way her mother always offered "constructive criticisms" about her appearance. That was one of the things that had her always so self conscious and second guessing herself. If it hadn't been for her father, surely Kat would have gone out of her mind or had some sort of serious personality defect from all the so-called fashion tips that were shoved down her throat constantly. At least she knew she looked okay in jeans and her t-shirts or jerseys. Kat also thought she didn't look half bad with neon green, short hair in her "pride of the Irish" shirt and capris...but that was a whole other story there.
Kat groaned and mentally chastized herself for even saying anything. The last thing in the world she needed was Victoire coming up here to scold her as well. Actually, the last thing in the world she needed was this whole bloody dance thing but getting scolded and slapped would just add to it. At least, when she noticed Evie blushing a bright shade of crimson, she had something to ponder. "First off, James is WAY too far out of my league. He's like...popular and everything. I'd make a complete arse out of myself if I even dreamed about asking him. And, quite personally, I'd rather not make a fool out of myself in front of the entire school," she groaned, shaking her head and letting out a soft sigh before going on to add, "Secondly, who were you thinking about when you turned all pink?"

Eveylyn gave Katherine a look then shrugged. "Your mom could tell the most beautiful woman in the world that she needs a face lift. You know it. You've seen how she talks about the models. Your mom lives to critisize." She giggled slightly. "Yes. Vic is coming. That's it. She'll come up here and make you shut up about not being pretty."
Evie hugged Katherine. "If you were ugly, I'd tell you. You know I would. Growing up around your mom and around mine?! I have no choice but to be super honest about looks. You're beautiful Kat! Any guy would kill to have you." She smiled at her best friend the poked her. "So... How about Jamsie? Huh? Huh? How about him?" she asked, playing around.

Groaning again, Katherine shut her eyes. Evelyn was right about her mum though. Lav Finnigan could criticize absolutely anything. There was no such thing as perfection in the eyes of that woman and there certainly was no pleasing her. Lifting her hand to her forehead, Kat mumbled, "Please don't call the cavalry. I'll shut up if you promise not to call Vic. I don't need someone else scolding me...and I really don't need a good slap upside the head. Not right now anyway."
Hugs. So, Kat might not have been the best with most things but sometimes hugs did help. Besides that, she knew that Evie wouldn't lie to her. They'd been best friends since...well...before Kat could even remember really. Then again, though, opinions on appearance were just that: opinions. Laughing out loud, Katherine shook her head at the comment about any guy "killing" to have her. It was hysterical! Before she could make a reply on that, she squeaked from being poked. "Evie...he's out of my league. I'm not going to look like a total idiot asking him. Besides, I bet he's already got a whole line of popular and pretty girls just dying to ask him."

Remus’ eyes caught James’ and his smirk got wide at the sound of what James had just said. Now there was his friend who got all those girls...
'Yeah. Of course there will be. I mean, I am a Potter after all' “There yeah go,” he laughed again, he nudged him hard, raising his eyebrow at what his friend said next. The shameless flirt in him seemed to come out often, and this was one of those times. He turned towards the girl, advancing a little, he then turned towards James and motioned for him to follow along. The sound of their voices floated to their ears and he noticed them talking about Victoire and her slapping people upside the head... then about someone being out of her league?
Girls and insecurities didn't mesh well with him. Remus was the sort of guy who would hit on a girl whether or not she thought she was popular or not. Actually, he liked a challenge, girls just gave him everything, he got bored way too fast. Sometimes he even would joke that he like "cushion for the pushin", which he had heard his father said after his mother repeatedly called herself fat. But little Remus had never considered his mother to be fat... and he didn't see why women treated themselves that way for it. He grew up listening to his mother and father telling stories about when they were young... and his father was the exact replica of him... a stone cold player. And who could make him feel something? Dorcas... which was strange really.
Remus quickly snapped back to reality. "Ahh, man, I could just as much damage from over here, but I think these girls deserve a bit of talking to.” he grinned, strutting over to them, so naturally it looked almost like a glide. ”Hello Ladies... I couldn’t mind over hearing your conversation. Seems you both don’t have dates for the ball... and I can’t imagine why.” He winked at them, not really sure which one he was winking at really. He hoped James was in back of him, but his concern was o the two beautiful girls infront of him.

Evie grinned. "I should totally call Vic now... She'd help you though..." She listened to Katherine go on about James being out of her league. "Oh please Kat. James Potter is a dork at heart. He'd fall for you completely if you'd let up a bit." She said poking the girl. "I mean come on -" She stopped as Remus-James Black and her gullible cousin came up to them.
”Hello Ladies... I couldn’t mind over hearing your conversation. Seems you both don’t have dates for the ball... and I can’t imagine why.”
Evie blushed a little then glanced at Katherine. Mentally, she was screaming for joy. Remus-James had just winked at her.... Okay... so it was a little premature flirting... and it wasnt such a big deal... But he'd actually noticed her! Which is much more than most girls at Hogwarts could say. She smiled at him and bit gently on her bottom lip. "Well, its hard to find dates when all the good ones have already been asked. You must have a line of girls waiting to ask you to the ball."

Okay, so maybe Katherine was being a little too self critical. She couldn't help it really. Her own bloody mother was constantly after her for whatever reason and even her darling little brother gave her constant reminders about how fat or hideous she was. So she knew that she wasn't exactly a monstrosity but she certainly didn't think she was anything more than plain and average. Even with Evie saying that Potter would be interested, she couldn't help doubting it. Just as her mouth opened to interrupt Evie, she heard another voice.
Though Katherine had seen the boys earlier, she hadn't been expecting that Remus-James Black and/or James Sirius Potter would actually find their way over to the very spot where she and Evie had been talking. The first thought to enter her head was "D'oh!" If Black had overheard the bit about them not having dates, surely they'd heard everything else as well. Merlin! Just what I need... Kat thought. Trying to avoid making eye contact, she shifted nervously and made a move to look at her feet. As she did so, she caught Remus wink. Surely that had to have been at Evie, she thought, a puzzled look upon her face, ...right?
Rather than say anything, Kat decided to look at her feet. She hadn't noticed the blush upon Evie's cheeks and she hoped, for the sake of Helga Hufflepuff, that no one had noticed the light tint that had somehow found it's way to hers as well. It wasn't like she was completely smitten or anything so she had no idea what the pink was for but she couldn't make it go away either. This was all a little...well...she didn't even know what it was really.

After his name was brought up in the girls' conversation numerous times, James got used to not getting his hopes up. Every time the one girl would ask the other about asking him, the other would respond the same way: He's out of my league. If there was anything James wanted to do right then was walk right over there and tell the girl that he was definitely in her league. Of course, James, being the semi-shy and caring boy he was, fought these thoughts in his head and just acted nonchalant.
Remus had slapped him on the back and told him "there ya go. All James could do was try his best to smile an arrogant smile (which came out as more of a grimace) and nod. He waited for a response to his question, seeing as how he was finding it a bit weird to be standing here and just listening to the girls.
Remus started advancing towards the girls and James hesitantly followed, even though his mind was telling him to turn the other way so he wouldn't have to face the girls. Attempting to make his gait look cool, he followed after his friend and then stood beside him.
It was like an instant effect: immediately after Remus winked (a bit he did often when flirting with girls), one of them, his cousin Evie, started blushing and biting her lower lip. The other one, a 7th year whom he figured was the one that thought he was out of her league, was a bit more subtle about her reaction towards Remus. Either way, both of them appeared to have completely failed to notice that James was standing right next to Remus.

Ahhh, blushes, the most wonderful facial aspect that ever existed... well after the mouth of course. It seemed he had gotten the same reaction from both of them, only the quiet girl, who he knew as Kat from what James had told about his cousin Evie and her best friend, was a little more subtle than Evie.
'You must have a line of girls waiting to ask you to the ball.' 'I wouldn't say a line... well, yes kind of a line." he smirked at her comment. "I very much doubt all the good ones are taken if you two are still free..." He was trying to pay equal amount of attention to the two of them. It wasn't too hard for him, chatting up girls in numbers was his specialty. Actually, it was his extreme sport. His eyes switched between them, and he tried to catch Kat's shy eyes to give her a little smile. "As I must depart, Katherine and Evelyn... I'll be waiting for your invitation." He gave them another wink. Although he had just told them that he was expecting an invite, he didn't know which one he was talking about... hell he might have been talking about both of them knowing him.
He sent a look towards James, his smirk apparent, his look meaning they would talk about this very soon.
[[OOC ;; better to keep their conversation short and sweet;) I don't want them over thinking who he likes!]]

James waited for some kind of reaction to acknowledge his being there, but none came. Kat had become very interested in her feet, and Evie was having a little conversation with Remus. Of course she had to bring up the fact that Remus had a line of girls after him. James rolled his eyes and shrugged it off, trying not to be so put down, and checked his watch like he had to be somewhere.
After looking at his watch for what seemed like forever (when in reality it was only 15 seconds), he acted like he was interested in the paintings in the corridor that were either snoring loudly or lazily listening in on the conversation Remus and the girls were having. Finally, Remus made his haughty remark and winked at both of the girls, making it known to James that it was time to leave.
As James was just about to turn away from the girls, a daunting thought came to mind. What if he never got a date to the ball? The thought was sad, almost sickening of having a Potter dateless on the biggest ball of the year. 'No, no. It'll be okay. I'll get a date. No need to worry.' He tried to reassure himself, but the thoughts just kept coming back to him. Finally, he came to a conclusion: He would have to bury his head deep inside a hole in the ground if this ended with him having no date.
