Bored, cold and wide awake, Jess made her way down from her bed, careful not to trip over anything before heading into the common room. Waving to a few Ravenclaws who had eaten dinner already, Jess walked out of the common room and into the hallway. It was nice and quiet, something she enjoyed and allowed herself to be lost in thought. There was no way she was going down to dinner, no way. Besides, she wasn't exactly that hungry. So when she headed to the staircase, she didn't go down but up. Step after step, ignoring the potraits on the walls that were speaking to one another. Up and up until she reached the seventh floor and headed into the Astronomy tower.
Smiling to herself, Jess ran her fingers along the cold stone, looking out into the darkening sky. The stars were bright and there seemed to be thousands of them, twinkling about. Leaning on the sil, Jess stared out, watching as the grounds became darker until night swallowed it whole. Part of her knew she should go to dinner or make to the common room, but she was content to just stand and watch, mind wandering. The Ravenclaw liked to be alone, then no one could jumble her thoughts when she tried thinking.
"No pain, inside, your my protection." Jess whispered, not sure what those lyrics were meant for. Music was a passion of hers, and often listened to the wizarding wireless network when she could. A sudden jolt of wanting to go outside sparked in her nerves, but knew if she did, she would be in huge trouble if she was caught. "I never have any fun." Jess pouted slightly, wondering what her friends and family were doing at this moment in time.

Astronomy by fair was Lily Potter's least favourite and worst subject. It was just so hard to remember the names of all those stars, constellations, and what it all meant in relevance to magic. Lily preferred more hands-on classes like Potions, Charms, Transfiguration, and basically everything except staring at an endless sky.
Lily sighed, as she would have to skip dinner tonight if she wanted to get her Astronomy homework done on time. She always put it off until the last minute, solely because it gave her the most trouble and she hated it. The assign was to chart a night's sky and label each star and constellation. It was tedious work, just another thing that caused her strong dislike toward the subject she deemed as useless.
Lily huffed as she climbed the stairs to the Astronomy Tower. When she reached the tower, Lily expected to be alone, as dinner was probably starting right now. She yearned to be downstairs with her house mates, eating. Unfortunately, she felt miles away from all the fun. Quite to Lily's surprise, she was not alone in the Astronomy Tower. At the vision of another, Lily jumped in her skin and let out a small gasp. "Oh," she said, her surprise clear in her voice. "I didn't expect anyone else to be here."
Lily inspected the figure that was now in clearer view she stepped forward, clinging onto her book. It was a girl, blond hair, and by the embroidery on her robes, a Ravenclaw close to her age. By process of elimination, Lily guessed the first name that came to mind, "Jess?"

The voice startled her, and she berated herself for not keeping more of a clear head. If she did, she would have heard the footsteps before the words, but no, she was too far in her mind to listen out for small sounds. Turning around, her blond hair swished with the movement, Jess laid eyes upon Lily. A smile played across her lips as she saw someone she classed as a friend, a good friend even. They had, after all, pretty much grown up together. Lily was a Gryffindor, and one year older than Jess herself. But that didn't stop her from respecting her fellow Hogwarts student.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to frighten you." Her voice was soft, its usual tone. Her voice never rose unless she was angered and that didn't happen much, if at all. Quiet, and calm, was how most people described her along with kind and caring. Her cheeks went slightly red, brushing her hair away from her face and eyes as she half looked back towards the night sky. Longing to be with the stars and silent of the night engulfed her, and it was lucky Lily was there. No, she wasn't going to jump, more likely she would have spent the night just staring at the sky. Peace, thats what she currently felt, and it was a nice feeling.
"It's been a while Lily." Jess pulled her attention to Lily, wondering how she was doing. Jess herself had been pretty busy with homework, reading and learning, something she enjoyed immensely. "How are you?" Jess asked, eager to know what had been happening in her friends life.

Lily dropped her Astronomy book, she didn't care much for it anyway. She hurried over to her dear friend and wrapped her in a hug. Lily hadn't had the chance to talk to Jess recently. They both seemed to be busy with their school work, though Lily welcomed any distraction that came her way. She missed Jessica, and saw this as the best opportunity to catch up.
Releasing Jess again, Lily finally replied. "Oh, I'm fine, fine," she said, excitement clear in her voice. "How are you?" Lily's mind fluttered around, wondering what had been going on with her friend. All the normal details, specifically boys, came to mind. "Anything new? Oi! Guess what?! I'm stuck here over the holidays. Mum and Daddy are going on some vacation, how horrible is that?" Lily began to speak quickly, as she always did diving into a conversation with someone she hadn't seen in awhile. She was less able to control herself when she overly excited - she talked fast and barely anyone was able to comprehend what it was she was saying.

"Thats great!" Jess beamed, hearing that her friend was fine. Lily was always like a sister, and Jess always hated when she couldn't talk to her. Lily knew everything about Jess, and it amazed Jess how Lil was never judgmental about her depression. "I'm great. Trying out for the chaser position in the Quidditch team but hopefully it doesn't clash with my studies." Jess smiled, hugging Lil before Lil let go. It was nice to talk to someone who was like family, that way she didn't have to worry about what she said. "Nothing new, been busy studying." Jess was always studying, that wasn't really anything new.
Looking down at the dropped book, Jess smiled again, "having trouble with Astronomy? Thats my favorite class." Watching the stars, learning the names of those stars and planets and everything else in the vast universe. "On holiday? Oh man, that sucks!" Jess exclaimed, knowing that her friend always went home on the Christmas holidays. Thinking how horrible it must be not going home(Hogwarts was good but not the same), she was struck with an idea. "I can talk to mum and dad, see if they'll let you come with us for the holidays. I'm sure they won't mind." Besides, being home with her brothers wasn't too appealing.

"You're trying out for chaser?! Oh, I hope you get it," Lily gasped, with a little squeal at the end. She cleared her throat, realising she was getting a little over excited. That was just Lily, bubbling with excitement and happiness. In fact, she was beginning to forget that she had previously been in a salty mood, due to her interrupted holiday plans.
Lily grinned at Jess's suggestion. The idea of spending vacation with her, and the rest of the Lupin family sounded like great fun. The idea of not spending it with her own brothers, however, was a downside. "Well, it won't be so bad here. I mean, James and Albus are stuck here too," she said with a bit of a shrug, turning down Jess's offer. As much as Lily loved the Lupins, she couldn't possibly imagine the holiday season without her own flesh and blood. Besides, Lily had always wondered what kids did, or got to do, at Hogwarts when no one else was around.
"Me? Trouble, in Astronomy? Well..." Lily said, coming around to the question she had previously disregarded. "I um, that is to say, yes. Oh, I'm sorry but, it's an absolutely horrid subject." she said, glaring at her book that laid carelessly dropped on the ground. "How can you possibly remember all those names, and where they heck they are all suppose to be?" Lily asked, well, more like complained. She really didn't care much for Astronomy. If Jess was going to offer her help, Lily whole heartedly would accept it. She needed all the help she could get.

"Me too!" Jess grinned from ear to ear as she spoke, her whole family like Quidditch, and her brother was on the Gryffindor Quidditch team. Which meant that yes, they would play against each other if she became a Chaser. Try outs would be held upon the weekend, and Jess had already finished all her homework so she would have nothing on her mind to distract her from trying out. She would need perfect concerntration if she wanted to make it. Yet she pulled herself away from Quidditch thoughts, listening to her friends next words, and her smile didn't fade or falter.
Jess knew her offer was turned down, and hey, that was fine. She offered, it wasn't like Lily HAD to take it, so all in all, Jess really didn't care. Well, she did, but it wasn't like 'Oh man, she didn't accept, I'm going to cry!' Jess wasn't pathetic, and she knew what it was like to not want to spend Christmas time away from family. The young Lupin was like that with her brother, the famed Sirius Lupin. Most of the girls knew him, and it made her laugh and want to tease her older brother. She never really got many chances to actually tease him. "Thats cool. You'll still be with family. But that offer won't expire." Jess winked.
Laughing, Jess shook her head, wiping her eyes. "It's not horrid. Well to me it's not." Grinning still, Jess wasn't offended by what Lily had said. "It's easy. Some students make up songs, others poems. I put a name to someone I know. For example, Orion's Belt, I think of uncle Sirius's dad." She always called Sirius uncle, and knew about his family, but she didn't have anything against the older male, he wasn't like his pure blood family. "If you ever want help, just ask. I love the subject, so I wouldn't mind." Jess would help anyone that needed help in a class, so long as they asked her.
((ooc// this thread she isn't in the team, but when we have another thread, she can tell Lily she made the team ))

"Hey, that's a smart idea!" Lily exclaimed. Sure, it sounded easy enough - apply someone else to the thing you want to remember, to help you remember. She knew it would probably be more difficult then it sounded. Aw well, she'd save it until later - like last minute later. That's just what Lily did.
Besides, there were more things they could take about other than silly old Astronomy. Lily didn't really want to talk about that stuff. It was boring. The only subject that didn't bore her was Potions. Lily Luna could talk about Potions forever. "So," she said, changing the subject once more. "Any new boys in your life Jess?" Lily grinned, waiting for her response.
