Yes, it was forbidden but, what could be so scary about a forest? Sure, Lily had heard the countless stories from her parents, cousins, and professors about all the while creatures that supposedly lived in the forest. Well, how does anyone know if the forest is forbidden? Didn't they know the name just made it tantalizing enough? There were bound to be a few students or two that were curious as to what was lurking in the shadows - Lily Luna Potter was one of them.
Lil didn't go unprepared. She had her wand, that was the only tool she needed. She didn't feel an ounce of fear as she waited until dusk fell before sneaking off across the long. Her heart pounded, and the only thing she felt nervous about was getting caught. Lily had complete confidence in her magic skills, thinking she could ward off anything that may attack her.
Without hitting any snags, Lily made it the Forest's edge without being sighted, so she thought. Taking a quick look back at the castle, Lily smirked to herself before crossing the border between the lawns and the Forest. Slowly, she made her way through the trees. This doesn't seem bad at all, she thought to herself. "'Lumos." she whispered, and the tip of her wand light up. Lily held it in front of her, looking around as she went further still.
Everything seemed so, still. It was kind of creepy how still it was. The trees barely moved in the wind, if there was any at all. Lily hugged her cloak around her, and put up her hood to hide her face and red hair. If anyone happen to come by her, at least they wouldn't be able to identify her right away.
Lily continued to wander deeper and deeper in the forest, until she came upon a path. She stopped, looking down both ways. Which way to go? One way probably led back to the lawns somewhere. The other way must lead deep in. Lily wondered just how far the Forest led. Where did it end? Did it end? Ultimately, curiosity got the best of her mind, and she chose to go left - following the path further on still.
The dirt path winded, deeper and deeper into the Forest. Along the way, Lily used her wand to mark the trees. Leaving herself a trail of breadcrumbs to find her way back. It seemed like a smart idea. Lily wasn't a stupid girl, she wasn't about to get herself lost somewhere she wasn't really suppose to be in the first place.
She traveled further on, following the path. After what seemed to be a good hour or two of walking - Lily seeked somewhere to rest. There really weren't and good places to sit down - so, she pressed on just a little further. She noticed the thick rows of tress seemed to be thinning slightly, and the path was getting rockier as she walked on. It was only about thirty more yards before Lily stumbled, and nearly slipped on smooth rocks under her feet. She balanced herself, and squinted in the darkness to see what was a head of her. The moon hung low in the sky, and it's refection lay on top of black water. Lily could hear the faint lapping of small waves against the smooth rocks. She concluded that it must be the Black Lake.
Lily carefully walked toward the water. There was a large log conveniently placed close the shore. How..odd, she thought but, proceeded to sit there anyway. She looked off across the lake and could clearly see Hogwarts standing in it's splendor. It was a fair distance away. Lily though she must have traveled halfway around the lake. It must have taken her a few hours, since the moon was in the sky, and there were no traces of daylight.
This spot seemed like a nice little spot. Why was so scary about that? Nothing. Lily hadn't even heard a twig snap the whole time. She didn't' come across a werewolf, giant spider, vampire...nothing. Just quiet trees and darkness. Of course, the second after Lily thought things weren't so bad, SNAP!
Lily's head spun on her shoulders. She held her wand to the ready, and could faintly make out a dark figure in the distance. "Who's there?" she said in a firm, brave voice.
