Lucinda held her wand in her hand and smirked. Pointing it at James she muttered a spell and shot it at his robes. She fought back laughter and stuck her wand back inside of her stockings as she waited a second for the spell to hit him so his dress robes would turn Hot Pink and tie a red and green striped. She slinked back into the crowd and passed behind Remus and smirked fully waiting for roars of laughter to erupt.

Her words stung him a little, at first, because he realized that all she saw him as was a player. "...or you and your girls." He tried not to think about this as he kept moving to the song. "Please, Katherine, that is the last thing I want you to do." he said in that same soft voice, but not bothering to move his head in this time. He thought she was done talking to him, but then he heard a tiny whisper come from Katherine and his heart swelled. "Do you mean that?" He whispered back.
He too, had noticed that the people surrounding the floor were just standing there and not joining in. He had half a mind to stop dancing right there and encourage everyone to start dancing with them. Then he spotted two of his fellow Marauders, Sirius and Remus, and hoped that they would join. Remus had just found Evie and James thought that he was asking her to dance. If dancing with the girl that hated him wasn't torture enough, being the one's out in the middle of the floor by themselves, was.
They were still dancing, and James was about to freak out if the song didn't end soon. He was uncomfortable, as was Katherine, he wagered, and just wanted the song to be over with. He kept thinking that if he just hadn't asked Kat to go out on a date with Remus, then he would be thoroughly enjoying this dance with her and maybe even had a chance of going out with her himself. While lost in his thoughts, he was hit with a curse that had turned his suit pink and his tie striped green and red. He immediately stopped dancing and stepped back from Kat as he looked down at his suit. "What the...?" He whipped out his wand and changed his robes back to the normal color and looked around at the crowd to spot the guilty person.

It was impossible for her to think about much else besides the way she'd been feeling the day he'd crushed her silly little hopes. The thoughts were weighing on her mind so much that she'd barely caught what he said. A puzzled look on her face, she tried to figure out why he had suggested keeping their distance if avoiding him was the last thing he wanted her to do. It simply made no sense at all. Then again, boys rarely made any sense as far as she was concerned. She couldn't fathom how they could lead a girl on without a second thought and then make the girl cry in less than a heartbeat.
Torn from her contemplations, she found herself actually looking directly at her dance partner. A slightly embarrassed expression on her face, Katherine gave a very slight nod and whispered, "Indeed. I figure I'm a right idiot for that but I suppose I'm rubbish with much else besides Quidditch." She couldn't believe she'd actually said it but there was no use beating around the proverbial bush anyway. All it ever did was muck things up worse than they already were so she opted for blunt honesty. He might have been a git for the whole thing but she figured he deserved the truth...even if he and all of his friends decided to hate her for it.
The very instant Potter had stopped dancing, she noted the unique look he now possessed. Lucinda. Biting her bottom lip, Katherine had to keep herself from giggling at the boy who was supposed to be her date for this ball. She'd been told that Luce planned on doing something like this but she hadn't thought that the Slytherin girl would actually follow through with charming James' clothes to turn odd colours. As bad as she felt for James, she didn't want to have a full out war start in the ball room because of a silly little prank. Tapping Potter on the shoulder in order to hopefully cause a minor distraction, she noted, "I'm going to get punch. Do you want anything?" It was far better to get over her own thoughts for the sake of the dance than allow for a battle or prank war.

Lucinda waited by the Refreshment table drinking a small cup of pink lemonade. She watched ammused at Katherine and James just waiting for the outcome. She moved a strand of her light blonde hair from her face and tapped her light gold and white polished nails on the table next to her idly. She looked around. Still no sign of her date. She bit her lip as she took a sip of lemonade.

Evelyn watched as everything came together perfectly. She smiled slightly as she watched the empty dance floor, half-expecting Remus to start dancing with another girl. She sighed then almost screamed as she felt an arm around her waist. As she was twirled around she closed her eyes and hoped it wasnt that creepy guy Willard Weston. She sort of shivered. That guy was wierd. She felt herself come to a halt and began to lower. She opened her eyes and saw Remus-James Black. She smiled and listened to him talk. "Oh? You clean up pretty damn well yourself..." She said checking him out slightly. She smirked. "Yes. Lets go join the two lovebirds. James cant dance worth his life.... He needs to be saved." She said before giggling a little. She looked around a little the cleared her throat, hoping Remus would pull her up before her chest popped out. She leaned up a little, until she reahed his ear. "Come on Remus." She whispered softly.

James listened to Katherine's words with his undivided attention, intending to completely argue what she was saying when she was done. This gorgeous girl that was standing in front of him seemed to have no self-confidence, and James prayed that he had nothing to do with it. "Kat, no. You know that that is not true just as well as I do." He gently rested his hand on her forearm, hoping that he wasn't overstepping any boundaries.
Well, now that he was completely red in the face after stopping the Head Girl and Boy dance on account of the fact that his robes had turned a different color, he was hoping to be able to go and find the culprit. But before he could even take a step towards the crowd, he felt a slight tap on his shoulder and a beautiful voice of the Head Girl. Seeing as how James was willing to do anything she said to get her to like him again (even if that meant pass up a chance on cursing Malfoy), he clenched his jaw and balled up his fists and nodded stiffly. "I'll go with you...if you don't mind."
He offered his hand out for her to take, but he was fully aware that Kat may not take it. Hell, if he was in her position he probably wouldn't take his hand either!

Kat flinched slightly when he put his hand on her forearm. It wasn't just that it was Potter either. She'd already told one of her friends, who she'd noticed standing over near one of the walls, that she was thoroughly done with boys until Mister Right came along and swept her off her feet. In her mind, there was no use in playing the silly little teenage games anymore. After all, she was of age and would be finished with Hogwarts at the end of this school year so there were far more important things to be worried about than bothering with the childish games of boys who only wanted to get in her knickers or add another tally mark on their scorecard. Nonetheless, James' words did make her smile just a bit more sincerely than she was.
Taken slightly off guard, Katherine was rather shocked to hear that James offer to actually go with her. Giving him a slight nod, to signal that she hadn't minded if he really wanted to come along, the Hufflepuff saw that a couple of other people had finally started heading for the dance floor. The most notable of them was her best friend, the one who'd helped her to get her hopes up before being crushed, and 'git number two.' They looked awfully cozy but Kat couldn't care any less. Children...that's all they were...silly little children.
Mentally reminding herself that she wouldn't even have to come back to this place after the year ended, she gave Potter one more side glance and very hesitantly took his offered hand, solely for the sake of the dance, before starting out toward the refreshment table. Even this very table was a potential victim to pranking but Kat hadn't seen the prankser show up yet. As she reached the table, she took a look over at Lucinda and smiled knowingly at the lemonade sipping Slytherin.

OOC- I'm sorry, this might be a short post
Lauri continued to watch them dance until James' clothing turned odd colors. It didn't take him long to realize that Lucinda was the one who produced the charm. 'Go figure' Lau thought. He stood there for a moment once the two left the dance floor and all of the other students began to make their way out. He had no one to dance with. Why did he have to be so shy at times?
He saw that Kat, James, and some of his other acquaintances were at the punch table, so he decided to go over and have a drink and say hello. He squeezed his way through a crowded spot near the punch bowl, apologizing, and then found himself right next to his friends.
"Hey guys," he said casually. He would not say anything about the dance, but he smiled at all of them as he fished himself out some punch and began to sip on it.

Cooper had spent a good portion of his mind, just leaning against the back wall, near the entrance. He kept eye at the entrance, and people around. He hadn't noticed anyone around talking to him. His mind was just so consumed with the well-being of his sister, he hadn't noticed anything else.
Coop cursed under his breath. Lizzie was never late for anything, She's not going to show... he thought with a disappointed sigh. Well, she was a stubborn girl. Even though he pretty much forced her to promise to come, it was clear she wasn't coming. Cooper sighed, Well, at least the night isn't lost... That was very true. He still had the chance to swoon some girl, dance with her, maybe even snog with her later on.[/blockquote]

You could never acuse Roxy of being punctual, but this was a new record for her. Comming through the entrance doors she had to stop for a second to take in the appearance of the hall. Whistling quietly to herself in appreciation she barely noticed her big cousion leaning against a wall, looking very much like the loner, shy guy he definately was not.
Straightening her dress a bit, as it was a tad revealing and very strappy and hot pink, she moved over by him. "Hey cuz! she said to him leaning against the same wall, "What? No hormonal girls going crazy over you yet?" she asked raising an eyebrow in shock.
As she waited for his response she scanned the crowd for her date, she really hoped Romeo wasn't going to bail on her. After it'd taken her so long to work up the courage to ask him, she would be very embarassed and pissed is he didn't show.

Cooper had faintly realized he was joined by his younger cousin, Roxy. "Hey," he said and he shrugged. "The night's still young," he commented. "Who is your date?' he questioned. It was obvious to him that she had date. After all, she looked like she had been searching the crowd for someone in particular.
He debated whether bringing up Lizzed to Roxy, Still, he wondered if she had seen anywhere. "Hey, have you seen Lizzie anywhere?" he decided to ask but, trying not to have high hopes. Then the thought that maybe she hadn't seen her at all. Lizzie had been anti-social lately, from everyone.

James was happy, more so than he should be, seeing as how he was holding hands with the girl that agreed to go on a date with his best friend. Regardless of what she said, she was still going on a date with Remus as far as Remus and James were concerned. She agreed, and the date was set. Still, he couldn't help but feel a bit glad at the fact that he was holding hands with the girl he had been crushing on for so long.
She was leading the way to the refreshment table, and James sped up his walk to get up right next to her as they walked. Sure, he was happy and guilty at the same time and these feelings were practically ripping him up inside, he still had to act cool as he always. He nodded his head up at some of the familiar faces of his friends as he walked with Kat, and waved at a few others. Finally, they were there and James noticed many people he knew. The brat, Lucinda Malfoy, and his great friend Lauri Ylonen. Regrettably, he let go of Kat's hand as he went to talk to Lauri, completely bypassing the Malfoy girl. But before he left Kat's side completely, he turned to her and gave her a small smile.
"Lauri, man! What's up?" He patted him on the back and grinned. "So have you danced with anyone yet?" he leaned against the table and picked up a cup of lemonade. "I see a lot of potential dancers out there..." he grinned into his cup as he surveyed the crowd.

Free from the awkwardness of dancing or holding hands with Potter, Katherine filled a glass with punch and took a small drink of it. For a moment, she thought about going to ask Cooper to dance but he seemed fairly occupied with chatting up one of his cousins. Besides, he'd already promised to save her a dance or two so there was no rush and no necessity to push her way into his conversation. Heading toward the nearest empty table, Katherine set her glass down and took a seat in the chair. She felt sort of uncomfortable still, considering the fact that she was currently stuck in a dress at present. The thought made her shudder.
Dipping the tip of her right index finger into the punch, she let a drop or two fall onto the table. For a moment, Katherine's eyes wandered over toward the dance floor to see if anyone was actually having fun. There were a few stray couples dancing to the new song that had started playing but the majority of the students were in groups or pairs socializing. Letting her eyes fall back to the table, Kat started to draw out a random Quidditch play she'd seen once. It wasn't that Katherine was anti-social or anything. She just didn't have anyone in particular to talk to and the fact that she was wearing a dress didn't make her too keen on wandering about. If anyone actually cared to chat with her or dance then they would likely be able to find her anyway. When it all came down to it, she was wearing a bright yellow dress so she wasn't too hard to spot.
Mostly to herself, Katherine murmured, "Would you catch me if I fall out of what I fell in...don't be surprised if I collapse down at your feet again." Her finger moved lazily over the tablecloth. The pink liquid that made up her little drawing had already started to dry. A soft sigh slid from her lips and she once more found herself debating how possible it would be for her to escape without being noticed. Then again, she recalled that she had yet to dance with her favourite Weasley and it would be horrible of her to run off without actually doing so...especially after she'd been the one to ask him to save her one. Glancing up from her artwork, she looked over toward where Cooper and Roxy were talking before averting her eyes toward the table again.

"Hello Kat!" Lucinda said going over and sitting next to her. "How are you? Did Potter tred on your toes?" Her blonde hair bounced as she plunked down into her seat, "Sorry I missed you speech. I was trying to find Damien. I haven't seen him and its not like him to not show up." She looked around again and then said, "But anyways, whats up? give me the skinny on Potter the Rotter, good dancer, sucky dancer, or great dancer, Or my favorite no comment?" She was rather hyper hopefully she could get rid of the 8 cups of coffee she had drank earlier that day.

A familiar and friendly voice brought Kat back to the 'here and now' as she glanced up to see Lucinda take a seat at the table with her. Giving a warm smile, the brunette Hufflepuff girl replied, "Heya Luce. I'm pretty alright, I guess. Still in this bloody accursed, evil demon dress though. I hate dresses. But, anyway, how are you?" It wasn't as though she was merely using her dress as an excuse for wanting to leave. Katherine Finnigan simply detested dresses and everything about them. They made her uncomfortable and they did wonders for her already low self-esteem when it came to appearances.
"No worries about missing my speech though. I doubt it was very good. Mostly just going over how everyone's supposed to get along and all that tripe," stated Katherine with a sure nod, "Besides, finding your date is probably much more important than listening to me prattle on about house unity and good behaviour." At this, she rolled her eyes and let out a light, forced laugh. As sincere as she was being, Katherine couldn't help feelng out of place at this little social gathering.
Despite the uncomfortable feelings, the nickname that Lucinda had given to James did get a good giggle out of Katherine though. Potter the rotter...now that's priceless. Shaking her head a little, she let the laughter subside before replying, "Not too much up other than waiting for a Weasley to finish up chatting so I can drag him onto the dance floor in a bit. But, anyway...it was awkward as hell dancing with Potter...I mean...after everything, you know. He's a half way decent dancer though so I guess I can't complain really."
