"Ah, yes, and I don't think I'd change a thing about you...even if you are a horrible flirt," she replied with a smile. Kat couldn't help feeling a sense of relief that she had someone else to talk to. Lucinda had been a nice distraction and gave her a good laugh but even Luce found her date, which left Kat solo again. Now, though, she was with one of her best friends and already having a half way decent time. Perhaps that was just a side effect of being around Cooper though. He always was good for a laugh and making a girl smile.
Again, she found herself laughing lightly at his comment about working on topping Quidditch. The thing about Katherine Finnigan was that she had always been head over feet for the sport. She loved the maneuvers. She loved the tactics and planning. She loved the way it made her feel...AND she'd always had a sort of "fan girl crush" on the Irish National team's Keeper. It was silly since he was close to 10 or 11 years older than her but she was, after all, a female. With one last lighthearted giggle, she answered, "Coop...Quidditch is my one true love. Unless you're Mister Right, good luck with taking priority over it." Considering how close they were walking and the fact that her hand was conveniently placed in the crook of his arm, Kat gently nudged him with her shoulder.
Hearing Cooper sigh, Kat glanced up at him to see a sort of disappointed look upon his face. Curiously, she asked, "Something wrong Weasley? Ah, wait...let me guess. Does this have to do with your sister not being here yet?" She felt incredibly horrible that he was so worried about Lizzie. It was really sweet of him to care about his little sister but, at the same time, Kat didn't like to see him upset or not having a good time. "If you want, we can go have a look about for her after this dance," she suggested in an attempt to cheer him up, "You know, to check on her."

She smiled and stood. Kissing him lightly on the lips she said, "Where have you been?" Tasting the whiskey on his breath she looked at him and said, "Have you been drinking?" looking at him quizzically she raised and eyebrow and said, "Hm? I'm waiting for an answer." Crossing her arms she tapped her foot on the ground impatiently. She never had patience. Wen she wanted something she wanted it at that very moment. "Look, I said I'm sorry I'm late. I'm here now though, just be happy" Damien glared back, not giving her the answer she wanted. His tux shimmered as he reached out towards her, trying t take her to the dance floor. "Come on, let's just go dance. It'll make it better" He watched her, easily able to tell she was annoyed with him. "Don't worry about where I was, that doesn't matter"

"If you want, we can go have a look about for her after this dance," she suggested in an attempt to cheer him up, "You know, to check on her." "Horrible?" Coop questioned, cocking his head like a little puppy. A cute, little puppy. "Horrible as in, I'm too much? Or, horrible as in I need some practice?" Coop grinned, knowing that he was always just "too much". He couldn't help it, it came naturally to him. It was natural for anyone except, he tended to flirt but, an unhealthy amount.
"You never know," he commented off-handedly. Coop knew all too well how much Katherine loved Quidditch. It was a common passion they shared, although she probably liked it more that he did. Coop loved the game, and the attention from the girls that came along with it. However, it wasn't something he wanted to do for the rest of his life. Instead he wanted to make more of a change in the world, so that was why he had chosen to go after becoming the next Minister of Magic. There he had power, power to change things for the better. "Was that a challenge?' Cooper asked, flashing her a grin. If she was, he would gladly seize the opportunity. Anyone in his position who wouldn't was a down right fool. In Cooper's mind, Katherine was an amazing girl, inside and out. If he had the chance with her, he'd take it. Even if it was just for a day but, he wouldn't want things to be weird or in the event of a break up, destroy their close friendship.
Cooper shook his head. "Looking for her to check on her, is probably the last thing I should do. She made it really clear the other day that she wants time alone. I know she did that at home, she'd go off somewhere on our grounds and spend hours by herself. Only...now, it just seems different - like she's pushing me away, unintentionally - I think." The whole situation was a real downer for Cooper. Mainly because he knew there wasn't really much he could do except, do as Lizzie asked and leave her alone. "No, I think I'll just give her sometime. You know, her last experience wasn't the greatest, at a ball." He said thoughtfully. Coop had nearly forgotten about the good-for-nothing rotten boy who had left Lizzie to snog off with some other girl. Coop remembered how that had torn Lizzie apart. He hadn't thought of it before, until just now.
Upon reaching the dance floor, he emptied his mind of those thoughts, for now. He'd save those for later. With a broad smile, Cooper took Katherine's hand out from his arm, and held it in his hand gently. He swooped his other arm around her waist, pulling her close to him. "Now, I believe I promised you a dance, so here it is," he said smoothly. It wasn't known but, Cooper was an excellent dancer. It was something his mother had taught him and his brother and sisters when they were young. His dancing abilities were just something he liked to keep to himself, and a select few.

"Horrible as in simply too much sometimes," she giggled softly, noting the way he'd tilted his head. He might have been too much but Katherine thought he was adorable all the same. Maybe she was just incredibly biased being that they were close friends and had been for ages or maybe it was just the effect he had on most girls. Perhaps a bit of both? Either way, she knew that she'd meant every word about not changing a thing about him even if she could...not even his silly flirting.
Kat didn't know exactly what to say to his response to her other comment. She'd only said it as a flirty sort of joke but now that he'd make the reply, she put a little more thought into it. For a moment, she contemplated things but eventually wrote it off to him teasing again. It wasn't unlike Cooper to joke back about something like being Mister Right and taking priority over Quidditch. She was about to laugh lightly until he went on to ask whether it was a challenge. A puzzled look upon her face, she had to replay what he'd said before she even knew how to answer. Usually, she'd have some sort of snappy response but this was not one of those times. Finally regaining her complete composure and ability to reason out what to say, she replied, "It is if you'd like it to be, Minister Weasley." As she reasoned it, who better was there to have a go at taking on the challenge than one of the people who knew her best and whom she trusted more than she probably trusted herself sometimes? Kat just didn't want things to get awkward if it didn't work out...but she couldn't see any reason why it wouldn't.
Nodding in understanding, Katherine softly said, "You know, you're probably right Coop. Best to give her a bit of time and space for now. I mean, I'm sure she's fine...probably just growing up and changing, like all girls do. I'll still have a chat with her the next time I see her. Anything at all I can do to help, you know I will. Do anything to help you out really." Again, she nodded slightly to enforce her very sincere words. Kat was just the sort that liked to help...especially if her friends needed something. Sure, she always said that Quidditch came first but even that would be set aside in a heartbeat if one of her friends, especially Evie or Cooper, needed her for anything at all.
It was nice to see Cooper smiling again as they reached the dance floor. She returned his smile but let out a very girlish giggle as he unexpectedly pulled her closer without any sort of warning. Kat wasn't complaining but she hadn't thought, after what they'd been discussing, that he would have moved so quickly. "Ah, yes, you certainly did and you'd better make it good," teased the Hufflepuff, her chocolate brown eyes watching his face. Even after talking about things that she was sure made Coop a bit depressed, she was glad that he could set it aside for now but she also wanted to be sure that he really was okay rather than only putting on a smile to keep up appearances. If he was happy then she would be too...but if he wasn't, then she'd have to find something to do that would cheer him up. Her thoughts were interrupted by the next song that began to play. Placing her free hand on his shoulder, she gave Coop a warm smile and waited for him to lead their dance.

I was getting very mad and was going to give you hell if you didn't show."

Lauri watched everyone with a smile on his face. He slowly sipped at his drink as James approached and greeted him. He then looked out at the dance floor when James asked if he'd had danced yet.
"Nahh," he asid somewhat shamefully. "Nobody asked me to the dance, and I just don't seem like I know anyone anymore. It's weird!" He looked back at James and gave him a playful smirk. "You and Kat out there though, didn't look that fun." Lauri hoped that he didn't make the conversation between him and James awkward in any way, shape, or form. James grinned as his friend talked, trying to figure out what could make him be so conscious about dancing. "You know, you don't have to have them ask you to dance. Why don't you go up to one and ask?" He took another sip of his drink, but regretted it after her heard Lauri talking about Kat and it made him choke a little on his drink. "Uhh...yeah. And the worst part is is that it's totally my fault. She's completely pissed at me, which she should be, after I asked her to go out on a date with Remus but not before I led her on, I guess." he sighed loudly and looked around. "Why don't they have and bloody firewhiskey?!" he asked vehemently.
If James wasn't already feeling completely terrible, seeing Kat sitting all by herself at a table made him feel worse. It seemed like the Malfoy brat had gone off with her boyfriend to dance and left Kat alone. He gave Lauri a glance, hoping he would realize what he was going to go do, but then his plans were crushed when he saw his older cousin, Cooper, walk up to Kat and take her to start dancing.
He grimaced and turned back to the table, his face really red. He ran his hands through his hair fidgetedly and downed the rest of his drink. THen he turned around to see the girl he had been crushing on for the longest time and his older, "Quidditch Captain" cousin dancing together somewhat happily. Cooper looked a little worried about something. For the shortest second, James felt really angry at his cousin for dancing with Kat, but then a feeling of calmness came over him. Well atleast she's happy... He got another drink and patted Lauri on the back again, before walking away and sitting down at an empty table.

Placing her free hand on his shoulder, she gave Coop a warm smile and waited for him to lead their dance. Cooper grinned and straightened his head. "Better horribly too much than too little," he commented with a grin. He enjoyed getting such occasional compliments. He was the one to usually dish out the compliments, so it was nice to receive one. Even if it so happened to be from one of his closest friends in the entire world.
Cooper was slightly astonished that it took Katherine so long to answer his question. Sure, it may have only been a few split seconds. In those seconds he even thought that she was seriously thinking about it. Her reply confirmed those thoughts but, he wasn't all too sure if she was being serious. The only fear of his was that if things wouldn't work out, that it would be awkward between them He didn't want to lose Kat as a friend, she was nearly like another sister to him. Truth be told, Cooper held feelings for Katherine. He just never laid those cards on the table. He never really planned on acting on those feelings, he just set them really, really far aside and forgot them. Tonight, those feelings came back briefly. "You do realize that I probably will try, eventually. You'll never know when, where, or how but, I just might take you up on that challenge - one day." Cooper said, smoothly. He had a hint of mysteriousness in his voice.
Cooper nodded again, gladly accepting any help Kat could offer. He didn't want his little sister to change. It was possible that she wasn't really changing just, growing up. He had noticed over the past year that she was growing up. There was something different about her now, only he couldn't exactly pinpoint what it was. "Yeah, time and space..." he muttered, falling into thought for a brief moment. Now, was not the time to dwell on things that upset him.
"It'll be the best dance you've ever danced in you life," Cooper whispered to her as he smirked. He held her a little closer than a friend would hold a friend. Then again, it was just a simple dance right? No harm came out of that. Once the music began, Cooper moved his feet - leading Katherine in the dance. Coop moved gracefully, in a manly way, without missing a step or stepping out of time. He never looked down, only kept his eyes on Katherine's face, with a constant smile.

It was hard to explain exactly what was going on inside Katherine's head as she remained there with her hand in his and her other on his shoulder. They'd been the closest of friends since their first year and, as she'd thought before, he knew her better than she did sometimes. This, though, was different. This was something entirely different and indescribable. No matter how she tried to find words to explain it all, Katherine Finnigan was left near enough to speechless. Here she was, dancing with one of her best friends and trying to figure out what exactly was going on between them. It had gone from playful and friendly flirting to her actually thinking there might be some seriousness to what she'd said and even in his responses.
The smooth tone of Cooper's voice brought her back from the countless thoughts and questions that were floating around in her head. A very, almost unnoticeable, blush seemed to creep up through her cheeks. She wasn't even sure exactly why the warm feeling was there but it was and it didn't seem like it planned on going away too soon. Glancing down at her feet a second, she smiled and collected herself before finally replying, "Good luck with that Weasley." It was all she could come up with. Kat just hoped that the sparkle in her eyes and the bright smile on her pink lips made some sort of difference in comparison with the few words that she could actually think up to say. Even though he was probably just teasing with her, Kat couldn't help her thoughts and the light pink colour in her cheeks.
As Coop began to lead her to the music, she was quite impressed with how well he danced. It had originally taken her a minute or two to realize they were actually dancing but only because she was a little lost in her thoughts and how close Weasley was holding her. A smile still upon her face, Katherine found that she had completely forgotten about how uncomfortable she was with wearing a dress. In fact, she'd let everything from earlier fade away. She was having a lovely time with someone who had a knack for making her smile and laugh even when she really didn't want to. Leaning closer, she softly whispered, "Best dance ever, yeh? I think you might be right Minister Weasley."

Roxy smiled appreciatively at Romeo's tux, the fact that he'd matched her dress made her laugh a little, not many guys would wear a white tux with a hot pink tie!
Roxy glanced around the dance floor quickly as they reached it, she could see a few couples dancing, includding her cousin and Kat. Turning back to Romeo as he spoke she smiled again, putting her hands on his shoulders and letting him pull her in a bit closer. "Well thank you Mr. Bixby. You also look quite dashing!" she told him laughing.

Jason Saw his friend James walk off and he looked a bit mad. He left the girl he was dancing with for a moment told her he would dance later. He got himself a bottle of firewhiskey that he knew both him and James probably needed. After all he saw the guy Roxy had come with and he saw that he was in a white and pink tux. While Jason was in a black and royal blue vest and tie. He loosened his tie grabbed a glass and walked over to James. He pulled out a chair.
He looked at James then at his friend Kat then he understood. " Boy man you look like you want to have your heart cut out. But here I know getting drunk will help you forget. But wont help your pain but here we are." he said handing the bottle to James. He had already filled his glass as he looked at Roxy but avoided meeting her eyes. He messed up his hair and looked at his glass.
" What's up James? What's got you down? By know you'd have a girl on your arm." He smirked a bit knowing that the four friends were the charmers around the school. Though they all had secretly given their hearts away. He waited for James to say something.

James sat leaned back in his chair, with his right hand holding his drink while resting on his right leg, and his other hand resting on other leg. He watched Katherine, the girl he had a crush on and so desperately liked, his other part (meaning the Head Girl), and the girl who hated him with good reason. Unfortunately for him he kept going over scenarios in his head where Remus or Cooper went out with Kat, ended up marrying her, having kids, and then dying an old couple in love. Damn them.
He took a drink of his punch, hoping that somehow it would turn into a very strong firewhiskey so he could get piss-drunk and forget about everything with Kat. Like a sign from Merlin, he saw one of his best friends coming towards him carrying a large bottle of firewhiskey. He grinned as well as he could with a ripped heart at his friend and straightened himself up when Jason came and sat down. "Please, would you? Would you cut out my heart for me? Please?" He said in an overly dramatic tone as he rested his hand over his heart with a slight smirk. However he couldn't help but notice that that was exactly how he felt.
"Ahh, thanks, man. You have no idea how badly I needed this." He took the bottle from Jason and poured himself a cup of it and took a large swig of it. He loved how it burned his throat but in a good way. He had taken a few sips before he answered, "That. That's what has got me down." He pointed towards the dancing Katherine, who looked like she was having a grand time. "There's no sense in even trying to hide it anymore. I know you all know, that is with the exception of Remus. WHICH reminds me. You are not to repeat what I am about to tell you." He eyed Jason with a smirk, because he fully knew that Jason wouldn't tell Remus. "Jas, I screwed up. Big time." He started, and began taking larger swigs of his drink.

"Good luck with that Weasley."
She wished him luck, that was a good enough confirmation for him. It was a challenge he didn't know if he could follow through. Yes, Katherine was beautiful, brilliant, fun, caring, all that good fluffy stuff. Cooper just didn't sure if he could chase after her. It might but their friendship at risk. That was something he wasn't willing to loose anytime soon, or at all. Still, if you challenge Cooper Weasley, he'll rise too it just to prove you wrong. So, maybe he'd give it a good go. Even with all that nuttiness floating around Cooper's head, he still kept constant eye contact with Kat. Never once looking down at his feet, knowing that he wouldn't step on hers. His mum had taught him not to look at his feet while dancing, it made you look awkward and mess up at the same time. After years of forced practice at home, Cooper had mastered his feet, so to speak. He was always confident whenever he had to dance - actually, he was confident about himself all the time. "Best dance ever, yeh? I think you might be right Minister Weasley." Cooper grinned at her comment. "Well of course I'm right! I'm always right - ninety-nine percent of the time." He didn't want to be so egotistical and say he was right all the time, he knew he wasn't. There were many times where he admitted he was wrong, and was never ashamed of doing so. He remained silent for just about the rest of the song. Cooper was soaking in the moment. He was dancing with a girl he thought, was the most beautiful in the room. Coop was glad to see that only a few moments ago, she looked like she was having a not-so-good time and now, she seemed to be enjoying herself. Just and side affect of being around Cooper Weasley. "So," he said, after moments of silence. Coop paused shortly, to lead Katherine into a soft, small, dip before he spoke again. "Enjoy your dance with James?" He knew they weren't on the best of terms at the moment. It probably wasn't the best subject to bring up at a moment like this. He felt stupid for even bringing it up but, he had to. He grinned, as if he was only asking innocently and knew nothing about anything. [/blockquote]

Katherine Finnigan wasn't the best of dancers considering she spent far more time practicing Quidditch and hanging out with her male cousins than bothering with dancing and girly things. Cooper, though, was a very good dancer and his leading helped her to not make too many mistakes. Oddly enough, she hadn't expected that he was so brilliant at dancing but he'd proven otherwise. As the music continued to play, she noticed that he hadn't even glanced down at his feet even once. Instead, he kept perfect eye contact and still managed to not miss a single step. It had her in sincere awe.
Laughing lightly at his comment about being right ninety-nine percent of the time, Kat continued to smile at him. Her eyes sparkled a little under the glow of the candles but mostly because she was actually having a really good time. "I don't know about that much Coop...but I'll concede it this time," she replied, trying as she might to forget about all that other silly stuff that had been said between them. After all, Cooper Weasley was a major flirt and the sort of guy that could get any girl he wanted. They were friends, yes, but she doubted it would ever go further than that. The more she thought about not wanting to think about it, she couldn't help it. Her mind raced with thoughts and ideas until she settled on being happy that they were at least friends.
"Ah, yes, the first dance of the evening," she sighed as she thought of a way to answer his question, "It was awkward to say the least but no worries I guess. All part of the job, right? Diplomacy and that, yeah?" Katherine didn't really want to talk about it for multiple reasons but she wouldn't just write off Coop's question. He did deserve at least some sort of answer so that was what she gave him. At the mention of Potter, though, she glanced over toward the refreshment table to see that Lauri was standing there alone. The first thought to cross her mind was 'bet he's off snogging some fan girl senseless'.
Without a word or even so much as a gesture, she returned her gaze to Cooper. "I noticed that you weren't here straight away and there was no girl attached to your arm...so can I safely assume you came solo with the intention of leaving with some unfortunate girl?" Kat asked in a half teasing sort of tone. As she thought about that more, she realized that pretty much all Gryffindor boys were the flirty, player type. At least, though, she knew there was a softer side to Coop and he wasn't a complete jerk.

"Plenty of motivation, I'm trying to impress this really wonderful young lady... she's smart, and pretty... and just the greatest pranking mastermind I've ever met..." He smiled softly at her, slowly wrapping his arms around her waist. Leading her to the beat of the music, he showed her the little he knew about dancing. "She seems way out of my league, but she's real sweet. Do you know her, Miss Weasley?" He gently leaned his head against hers, relishing in the contact. He sighed softly, his eyes chocolate eyes never leaving hers.

"Bloody good reason to show up then, don't you think?" He gave her a smart alec answer, pulling her in for the slower dance. Though this wasn't quite the dancing he was used to, he knew how to keep Luce happy. He just wanted her to stop complaining about him being late, but if she asked, he would claim he was trying to make it up to her. He leaned forward, softly kissing her cheek, then whispered in her ear. "You look beautiful tonight though, I love the dress"
