Skipping down the fourth floor corridor, after Potions class, Katherine Finnigan found that she was in a particularly good mood. Her mum had gone absolutely mad at the pictures that she'd sent home in her weekly report AND she'd had a particularly wonderful almost-practice all in the same week. Besides that, she'd talked to a boy whom she thought would never ever, except in her wildest dreams, notice that she even existed. How could things possibly get any better for her? Perhaps that was what had the Hufflepuff girl grinning like a mad-woman and humming softly to herself as she headed for the girls' bathroom.
Pushing the solid door ajar, Kat entered and found that it was absolutely vacant. That was somewhat odd considering most classes had just let out. Pulling the straps of her bookbag up, she lifted the carrier off and set it on the floor just next to one of the sinks. As Kat glanced at the reflection staring back at her from the large mirror over the sink, she shook her head. "Good Merlin Kat! You look like you've lost your bloody mind," she giggled at herself as she turned the water on and let it run a second or two. After checking that it was cold and clear enough, she filled her hands and then splashed the cool water on her face.

Lucinda walked into the bathroom in her school uniform and seen Kat and said, "Hey Katherine." She waved slightly and went to a sink and looked at herself in the mirror. She turned the water on cold and splashed it on her face. She got some on her shirt and sighed aggrivatily as she was wearing a dark color bra underneath that was now visible. She kicked the wall agrivatitly and then let out a yelp. She wasn't having a good day, not a good day at all.

Hearing the door shift open again, Katherine turned herself slightly to see who the new occupant of the bathroom was. Happily enough, it was a familiar face. In fact, it was actually one of Kat's absolute best friends. Patting her face dry with a towel she usually carried around with her at all times, the Hufflepuff girl stood up straight and warmly greeted, "Hey there Lucinda." She was just about to ask after her friend when the Slytherin let out an aggrivated sigh and kicked the wall.
Kat might not have been the best at knowing when someone was having a bad day but this was a little more than obvious for Lucinda right then. Though she wanted to help, she didn't want to make the situation uncomfortable or make Luci feel as though she had to talk about whatever was bothering her. Instead, Katherine opted to carefully question, "Penny for your thoughts?"

Lucinda sighed and said, "Oh, its nothing just my day is hell!First I wake up 10 minutes late, missed breakfast, was late for potions, I ended up going to class in my slippers instead of school shoes, I have detention with filtch because I knocked him down when running to class. Finally I ran into peeves and he doused me with paint and I missed Defense because I HAD to take a shower. I forgot my homework in my dorm, and top top it off I have a view of a dark color bra under a white shirt going. And my hair is a disaster." She huffed and said, "I am so not in a good mood." She sighed heavily and waved her wand to dry her shirt but instead soaked herself with more water, "What is wrong with my wand? Its been doing this kind of thing all morning."

Katherine listened intently as her Slytherin friend described the horrible day that she was having. She knew what those sorts of days were like; the sort where nothing seemed to be going right. Unfortunately, though, Kat was cursed with her mother's optimistic personality and always tried to find the silver or gold lining...except when it came to dresses and dress shopping. Both of which she had a deeply imbeded loathing for.
"Here...let me help," offered Kat, pulling out her own wand and using a non-verbal drying spell she'd learned in fifth year. Thinking a moment, she suggested, "I have a free period next so if you want to hang out and avoid the horrors that are Hogwarts today, we could always go plot revenge on Peeves. That prat is nothing but trouble so it's about time he got is just desserts."

"Sounds good. I ned a break besides I am going to have detention earlier and I don't even deserve it. I apologized but threaten to write my dad if I didn't show up and I don't need my dad biting my head off." Lucinda said with a heavy sigh, "But won't you get in trouble with your parents if you skip class for no reason?" Luci asked curiously, "I don't want you to get in trouble because of me." She said as she chewed on her nail lightly not wanting to ruin her perfectly manicured nail.

"I have a free study period next so there really isn't anything to get into trouble over. Besides, even if I did miss class, it would only be my mum who went mental on me for it. My daddy skived off classes more than once while he was at school here," Katherine responded with a grin as she thought about it. It was undeniable that she was 'daddy's little girl' and could practically do no wrong in her father's eyes. It was a good feeling.
Thinking about it a little more, Katherine went on to say, "Even if I would get into trouble, it'd be worth it to cheer you up and help you get revenge on that horrible poltregeist. What else are friends for, right?"

"Thanks Kat." Lucinda said with a smile, "I owe you one. If there's anything you need just say it I'll do it. I owe you a big favor by now. And I'll keep my promise. I'll take it to my grave." Lucinda said, " Not that I'm dying any day soon." She giggled and put her hair in a pony tail and played with her necklace.

Katherine nodded in a very friendly manner and said, "Anytime Luce. Anytime at all." It was the truth. Katherine Finnigan was a very devoted friend and would do just about anything to help if her friends were in need. That was just the sort of person that she was. Perhaps that was the main reason she ended up in Hufflepuff house even though both of her parents were proud Gryffindors. Honestly, she didn't wonder very much why she was placed where she was. Instead, Kat liked to make the most of her placement.
Giggling softly, she noted, "You really don't need to pay me back. Trust me, we're friends so it's pretty much my pleasure to make you laugh or make sure you have a good day. Too right, yeah?" She gave Lucinda a reassuring smile and nodded just to reassure her that it was the truth. Kat didn't want any repayment for being a good friend. It was simply her civic duty to help out.

"Okay. Oh hey with the snow ball coming up do you want to go dress shopping with me? I need a dress cause I'm going with Damien. I could come in normal clothes and he'd say I looked great." She rolled her eyes, "Have you found a date yet? Lucinda asked Katherine as she sat on the edge of the sink. She was curious, "Or do I have to hook you up with someone?"

The mention of the snow ball made Katherine groan and make a face of disgust. Kat hated the whole dance thing and anything to do with dresses. She HATED dresses. Frowning, she sighed, "I'll go with you but I hate dresses. I've been thinking about not going at all but then Evie Thomas swears she'll slap me if I don't. I bet my mum would kill me too." This ball had been bugging Katherine since she'd first heard about it. It was bad enough that it was a formal event but then it was a girls ask boys dance as well. It was just more stress than it was worth. If only she could ditch it and hang out on the pitch all night.
"That's awesome your boyfriend is one of those sort of guys. I know there's a lot of guys who are jerks or just plain liars," she commented, trying her best to avoid the question about her own date for it. The last she'd heard, she absolutely had to attend because she was Head Girl and needed to give the speech at the beginning but that didn't mean that she wanted to be there or even put thought into the whole date thing. She just didn't want to go at all. She didn't even want to think about it.

"I understand full. I would go if I didn't have Damien cause that means I'd have to looking for a guy. As flirty as I can be I don't do the asking. I mean isn't that the guys job I mean if we were meant to ask people to a dance or on a date we'd be proposing all the time too cause guys get cold feet when they need to ask you." Lucinda said

"I do have a few guy friends and all...but like...I don't know. It's just weird having to ask a guy...especially if I have to wear a bloody dress to the stupid dance and then actually...you know, dance and stuff," Katherine replied with a cringe. She'd always hated dresses. They just made her feel so uncomfortable. It was always easy for her to ask guys things and to do things but the idea of asking a boy to a dance and then having to wear a dress was not her idea of fun.
Shaking her head, she let out a forced laugh and nodded in agreement. The idea of girls having to ask guys to marry them was a little funny but she could actually see herself doing that. Then again, she was a complete tomboy who had no qualms about being around guys or anything at all like that. It was always the girly stuff that made her uncomfortable. Dresses. Acting feminine. Things like that.

Lucinda looked at her friend and said jokingly, "You can always wear a tux and be one of the guys." She giggled and decided to drop the subject. Well we can hit some stores this weekend and do more than dress shopping, "Maybe get some clothes clothes why we're out shopping to add to our mass wardrobes." She added with a loud giggled just then Mrytle flew out of the toilet.

Kat burst out in a fit of giggles at Lucinda's suggestion. Her honest opinion on it was that she'd have done if it was allowed but, as things were, she had to wear some dress to the event. Besides that, as she'd overheard, her date was already pre-decided by the school staff...so she really DID have to wear a dress and try to look nice. Again, she sighed and shook her head. It was a horrible, horrible thing, this dance.
"I need some new trainers and another set of warm-ups so I think doing a bit of other shopping as well might actually make this trip worth it," Katherine agreed with a thoughtful nod and smile. Just as she reached for her bookbag, the school's resident whiner came soaring out of one of the toilets with a shrill scream. Myrtle pointed at Kat and started to go on about how she shouldn't complain because at least she could go to the dance and have fun. To this, Kat only frowned and suggested, "We should get going Luce..."
